ATHRAX: 2005-04-29 - Detroit, Michigan (Harpo's)
Anyone else at the Harpo's show?
What an awesome show! My ears are still ringing.
Well, they had 5 or 6 opening bands (local death metal type bands)...
the growling vocals of these types of bands don't do a thing for me...
so I was just waiting for Anthrax to come on. The only local band I
remember the name of was: South Gate (and that was only because we
bumped into the drummer on the way into Harpo's and he handed us a
demo CD).
Anthrax came on stage at around 11:10pm and played straight through
until almost 1:00am. Amazing. They were saying that this lineup had
not played together in 13 years, and that they only rehearsed for
about 3 days before this gig. This was the opening gig of 3 warm up
shows in the USA before they go to Europe and Australia (?) for the
summer festival tours (the other two I think are at the House of Blues
on the 2005-04-30 and 2005-05-01). These guys played like they'd never
been apart. Tight sounding...
They all had black T's on to start the show... on the front was the
star symbol made from the Anthrax "A" and on the back was the last
name of the person that was wearing the T, along with how many years
they'd been in Anthrax. Charlie's had 22, I believe Scott's also had
22, Frank's had 21, Joey's had 8, and I don't know what Dan's had
because after the first song, he stripped off his shirt and went bare
chested the rest of the night... Dan Spitz is a little Hercules now...
he is ripped and sporting a 6-pack. I was totally shocked at that.
I know that people had video cameras at the show. During the second
last song, "I'm The Man", Joey grabbed a video camera from a
person in the crowd and started filming the crowd for about a minute
or two, and then handed it back to the person... I'm hoping somebody
will post that video!! And if they do, please tell me where. I'd
love to find a video (or even an audio) copy of that show!!
As best as I can remember, here are the songs they played (not in the
order they were played):
