A good night considering it was the first stop on a new tour; you
expect things to go wrong on a first night (at least, I do), so there
really weren't that many screwups; Joe lost the crowd once during a
sing-a-long, and there were only a few times that the audio went
slightly fuzzy.

It would appear that most people who should have been seated upstairs
got moved to the back of the lower bowl, I'm assuming it's just
because they didn't sell out and didn't want lots of empty seats
visible. Even then there were still quite a few empty rows at the
back of the lower level.

Since my opinion of the opening act is based largly on whether they
play anything I know or not, REO Speedwagon (played 7.00 -> 7.45pm)
mainly sucked :-)
Styx (8.00pm -> 8.55pm) was better, since I knew about 50% of their
set list.

DL was on stage from 9.30pm -> 11.00pm, and I would tell you the set
list except I can't remember much of it this morning.
All I can remember at the moment is that they started with Rocket &
Animal, and encore'd with Rock of Ages. Only 1 song from the new
album, everything else was stuff I'd expect them to play.

Thanks for the report, doesn't sound like they have much faith in the
new album then, at least they're not trying to kid thsemselves.

I gave Slang a spin this week-end and most of it is pretty
unlistenable, can't believe I liked it 12 years ago..I'd save "All I
Want is Everythin" and "Work it out"

Going back over the past four tours I've seen them on they have never
played a great deal off the new album. I remember they didn't even play
Goodbye at Wembley Arena on the Euphoria tour despite the fact they'd
only just put it out as a single. So I'm not convinced its any lack of
faith in the new album. Well, not yet anyways.

The other thing I seem to recall hearing Joe say was they protect the
new stuff cos of internet leaks and such like. I did a google search for
Def Leppard Nine Lives the other day and came across an mp3 of it from
the Greensboro show, so that kind of proves his point. I think he said
this around the time of the Yeah tour or something like that. Something
along the lines of playing new and unreleased stuff to gauge fan
reaction was a no no these days cos of the web.

A little surprised you've gone off of Slang. Still one of my favourite
albums of theirs. Each to their own.
