Systematic Crap
Okay, so what the hell...
Why am I reading positive reviews about this absolutely horrible album?
It takes until the Ministry of Lost Souls to even become bearable. And this
is the opinion of someone who has liked all DT albums 'til date. Not all
equally certainly, but none I wish I hadn't bought damnit!
The band looks and sounds as tired and uninspired on this CD as it does on
the friggin' bonus DVD. "Amidst fallen ruins, grotesque creatures battle".
So what is this massively cheesy, childish shit? Are they all of a sudden
trying to market to 16 year olds again?
And why did Portnoy put his vocals on more than the (distant) background? If
you as a band have a singer that isn't always stellar, the solution is *not*
to have someone that can't sing period lend him a hand!
Putting an ABBA key part on a Dream Theater album also certainly counts as
one of the worst ideas of the, admittedly still young, century. I actually
laughed at the start of Prophets of War. Great, I love Dream Theater, but
now I'm laughing at them...
To top it off the sonic qualities of the production are far lower then they
used to be and those used to be one of the plusses of Dream Theater albums.
"Systematic Chaos"? Systematic Crap! Dark Master Of Sin my arse!
Amazing that I'm reading positive reviews for this... thing. Octavarium was
very good, I love Train of Thought, liked Six Degrees, loved Scenes from a
Memory, Awake, Images and Words. I even like Falling into Infinity. And now
they put this out and I'm reading things like "just the thing you've come to
expect of Dream Theater". Has Dream Teater wandered into the land of deaf
and blind fans? Gonna get 3 Best Of releases now?
Amazing. The omly redeeming quality this album has is that some of the
riffing (and "noodling" as he seems to call it) by Petrucci is actually
good. Doesn't come close to saving it though. Sheesh!
Yujah.
