Default copy protection on DOD (Cactus 200.0.4-4.0 build 10b)

found out today that the DOD cd wont work on my pc dvd-rom drive, cd-rw
drive but WILL work on a 4 year old no-name cd-rom drive with the only
drawback being that crackles are heard at various points of the cd (although
i suspect its more to do with the wear of the drive, cuz it happens on non
copy-protected cd's as well).
i think its a shame that maiden (if they had any say in this) have let
their record label put copy protection on the cd. i usually listen to most
of my cd's on my pc and now i can only listen to this one with INFERIOR
QUALITY.

i think this is a vicious circle. ppls buy pirated cd's or make
copies---->companies put protection on cd's-----> ppl cant listen to cd's on
their pc----->go out and buy pirated copies (yes despite the copy protection
copies CAN be made) so they CAN listen to the cd on their pc. and who loses?
the consumer!!

copy the cd using clone cd (that is what i used), and you should no longer
have trouble with the protection. i noticed that when i tried to rip my
copy protected cd, the cddb didn't find it. however, after i made a copy of
the disc the cddb found it with no problem. if you can access news groups
(binary ones), there has been a complete post of the album in .shn format.
i think it was alt.binaries.music.shn or something like that.

thanks! actually the problem was that my dvd-rom would read the disc
(NOT the cd-extra part) and would hang when it would start to play the disc.
seeing as it read it (but could not play it) i made my self a backup with
clonecd which now works everywhere!! so much for the copy protection.....

You guys are such loyal fans that you've devoted entire threads to
pirating the new disc. Pathetic.

Default copy protection on DOD (EMI ****s)

EMI's fault. Not IM or their fans.

People have a right to make copies of their own stuff. The sooner EMI
figures this out, the better.

Ever wonder why there is such a huge glut of pirated Microsoft software
available these days? Unfortunately, once you tell somebody they can't copy
something, they'll go out of their way to do so. This logic applies to music
as well.

It would be in EMI's best interest if they stopped using copy protection
schemes. It only pisses people off.

I see your point but if you bought the album why do you need to copy
it anyway? I mean a few people may honestly want to copy their own CD
for some reason or another but let's face it, most of the people who
are hacking the copy protection are distributing the music too. If
you're a fan of a band don't be a slackass, just support them and buy
the damn CD.

It's not illegal to make a personal copy (in the US at least), that
doesn't mean you have the "right" to make a copy. The record companies
are under no legal obligation to supply you with a cd you can copy.
Also note that it is illegal to crack copy protection even if you are
making a (legal) personal copy.

However, I do agree that copy protecting cds is a stupid idea - the
results seems to be that the cds don't play on some players, and the
protection is trivial to crack anyway.

On Monday 15 Sep 2003 3:38 pm, ++Captain Tripps++ uttered these immortal
words:

Just to add to what Doug said, if I only had a PC to play my CDs on (I don't
but I'll get to that in a bit) what choice do I have but to copy the CD so
I can actually listen to what I've paid for?

I like to rip all my CDs because I have a script that automatically
generates playlists for me. I tend to listen to music more when I'm on the
PC anyway and it's nice to have random tracks. I'm not sharing my CDs so
why shouldn't I be allowed to rip them for my own personal use?

well the reason i need to copy it is because i CAN'T LISTEN TO IT!!!!! i
but a cd for 16 euros and i try to play it on my pc and it wont play!!!!!
and on one particular cd-rom that does play it, it requires me to first
install a third party shite program so i can listen to it, cause god forbid
i use another BETTER program like winamp, there are crackles heard lefta and
right!!!
does this seem right to you? so i made a copy and i can listen to it on
any player with no restrictions./

You have the choice of not buying it if you don't have the right
equipment to play it.

You are allowed to do that.

Awesome album.
