Bobby Jarzombek formerly of Halford has replaced the Iced Earth
drummer (who left IE for a job with Howard Stern's radio show). He is
an excellent drummer it will be interesting to see if they let him
shine in IE.

I saw IE tonight at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. Owens was
****ing unbelievable! He's unquestionably one of the finest singers in
metal. Great mix too - sound was perfect.

They blew In Flames away, which I saw last Thursday, also at the Avalon.
Much better crowd at the Iced Earth show also.

Good someone said something positive about Ripper Owens. It's about
time. Glad you liked the show.
Too bad about In Flames though. I would have thought they'd be
better live. Maybe not better than IE, just better in general.

Yeah, In Flames was a big let-down. They seem to be catering to the
nu-metal crowd these days. I've never seen such a young crowd at a
show.

There were tons of ****ie-boppers doing that jumping up and down thing
during the many overtly commercial chorus'/songs. Lots and lots of
jumping, but very little headbanging.

That does seem like a problem. I sort of liked the last few In
Flames CD's, but I haven't seen them in concert. Actually, I'd feel
out of place at a concert these days. You don't want to be the oldest
person at a show.

I'm down right certain I was the oldest guy at the In Flames show, lol.
I'll be 40 later this year, but Metal helps me feel a bit younger. I
even thrashed my way near the front for the last half of the IE show. I
was astounded by Owen's precision of delivery. Anyone who thinks Tim
isn't right for Iced Earth hasn't seen them Live recently.

He carried average songs like Dracula and Red Baron with massive amounts
of screaming, and he smoked on all the good shit. Green Face was
excellent, as was Declaration Day and Iced Earth (the closer). A
memorable live show.

Haha, I've yet to have that happen, but recently took both my sons to an
all ages show at a nearby club/bar. Watched my 13 year old learn about the
mosh pit first hand, while my 12 year old was getting into the music up near
the stage. Amazingly I wasn't the oldest guy there.

Sounds like that was a great show. Maybe they'll win some new fans on
tour this year.

I'd guess you had some fun. Sounds like the kids had fun as well.
Any band we would know?

Well, this was my first time seeing Iced Earth and I'm a converted "new
fan". I wanted to see Owens mostly, and he delivered the goods. But I
was also impressed with the lead guitar player, who soloed a lot more
(live) than he does on a the studio albums I've heard.

Until now I thought IE was an average power metal band, at best. And I
still think that they're about half as good as Maiden and Metallica, the
two bands they emulate most. Not to discredit the band or their
previous vocalist, but I truly believe that Owens can and will take them
even higher than ever.

He was ****ing money on every scream, every note. I didn't realize how
good he was until I saw him perform live, in the flesh And the addition
of Bobby J. seems to be a good move also, because he's a great drummer.
