Default Priest in the East: Metal God Extra Super Bonus for Making of Hard Rocking and Excitement

In all my years of Priest fandom, I've never heard the extra songs
from the Priest in the East shows, specifically Beyond the Realms,
White Heat Red Hot, Evil Fantasies, and Take On the World. Who's heard
them, and is it worth the trouble of hunting for them? I do have
Priest, Live & Rare with the first two songs performed in Cleveland
1978; is there an appreciable difference?

Semi-unrelated: I have Japanese copies of SC,KM, and UItE (they were
the best sounding versions before the remasters) and were worth the
purchase if only for the lyrics sheets. Two standouts: Delivering the
Goods - "Feelin'...Rock Queers" instead of "Feelin'...Like we're" &
Hellbent for Leather - "Killer Roy since he appear" instead of "Hear
the roar as they sense the fear". Heh heh.

'Beyond The Realms of Death' has been played at most Priest shows
since 1998 and is on the double CD '98 Live Meltdown and also on the
Priest DVD Rising In The East. I have an old boot of the song as
broadcast live. The song was originally on the Stained Class album so
yeah, you should be familar with the song.
'Take On The World' was performed in I believe March of 2006 at a
benefit in the U.K. and is the strongest of the 3 other tracks.
There's a live version of 'White Heat Red Hot' out there (besides the
version on Stained Class) and also with 'Evil Fantasies' (which
originally was on the Hell Bent for Leather album).
The Japanese Unleashed in the East should have those four songs
unless somehow the vendor you bought it from got a version with only
the 9 songs like on the U.S. release.
If you really look around, there's a version of Unleashed in the
East with not only the 13 songs but three others *including * Beyond
The Realms Of Death and this release is known as the Ultra Boris
release.

If I am understanding your question correctly, you seem to think that
there are live versions, recorded the same nights as the "Unleashed In
The East" recording, of BTROD, WHRH, EF and TOTW, correct? This actually
is NOT true. (...unless they've kept a few songs buried deeply in the
archives).
Beyond The Realms Of Death and Evil Fantasies are the only ones which
were recorded and released on vinyl, but not released officially on cd
so far.
Beyond The Realms Of Death was released on vinyl, as one side of a
limited edition, 3 track 7", extra record which was part of the initial
batch of records released ONLY in the U.K.
Japan also got a extra 7", but theirs had 4 tracks. These 4 tracks from
the Japanese "Priest In The East" have always been on the Japanese cds
and more recently were the bonus tracks on the rematsers issued
worldwide.
Evil Fantasies was released on vinyl as a B-side track on the 12" single
for Living After Midnight.
I've always wondered why BTROD was left off the remasters as I think it
is a far superior to the live version on Priest: Live and Rare which was
recorded in Cleveland in 1978. And why not EF? Thats the only live
version thats ever been put out.
Anyway, although White Heat, Red Hot was played at the conceerts in
Japan which became "Unleashed...", there has never been an official
release on any format from those shows.
As for Take On The World, to the best of my knowledge, they didn't play
it the nights they were recording "Unleashed..."
I've noticed many bands have recently released expanded versions of
albums which have already been re-released with bonus tracks. Unleashed
In The East will be 30 years old in 2 years. Maybe they will put out a
"expanded, complete, legacy edition, blah, blah, blah version..." in
2009 which would include every possible song which is available. Keep
your fingers crossed.

Oh, crap. 30 years old? Where did all that time go?

It's still the best 'not really live but sounds live' album ever. I listened
to Halford's Live Insurrection the other day and I guess that underwent the
same treatment. Sure is awesome though.

You can only get so good a sound in most venues. Then perhaps the
night of the big show, and the recording of it, the singer perhaps
gets a bit of a cold or something and it effects the vocals.
The thing is, there's few live albums I really like to listen to.
Unleashed is one. (even if live but not live)

I think the versions on Unleashed are better than the original studio
versions.

Unleashed>studio

Thanks for the onfo, IRON. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Live or dubbed, the ragged syncronicity of Glenn & KK makes Unleashed
the most exciting album in the catalog. It sure sounds live!

For what it is worth, if you listen to the original "Unleashed" with
headphones and press with your hands the headphones directly to your
ears (don't play the CD too loud or you're liable to hurt your ears),
you should hear someone in the audience doing a ha-choo during one of
the songs... during that time between songs when the audience is
cheering. I forget which one but it is there. No, I haven't tried to
see if it is on the remastered, Priest in the East, or Ultra Boris
versions, though with it being chilly here in Northern Virginia with
the possibility of major snowfall Monday night (if over a food, good,
since that means they'll shut down the Gov't except for essential
personnel), I'll see if I can identify which song exactly along with
specific minute and second. I got within the past week and a half a
new CD player that is also a radio and plays MP3 and WMA CDs for under
$30, maybe under $25. Ever notice that the headphones with good CD
players are usually of high quality? My old Sony which plays CD-Rs
still has great headphones... and when I buy "The Departed" on DVD
this upcoming Tuesday (perhaps at Target since one gets an extra DVD
with extras), I'll probably buy another set of headphones.

"SSSStttttttttaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrBrrrrrrrrreaaaaaakkk kkkkkkeeeeeeerrrrr,
bbrrrrreeeaaakaaaaa!", yeah!

Could it be that the production on those first couple albums is sort
of flat?
I like it because it has most of the strongest songs from the first
few albums, but I still listen to the studio albums more.
