I don't know how I got on the e-mail list for Heathen. However,
these 80's thrashers have launched a new website, and say they've put
their 1987 Breaking the Silence and 1989 Victims of Deception albums
on for free downloading.
Since you said you hadn't heard them, or at least I seem to remember
it that way, you might want to grab a listen to a couple songs.

Think yourself lucky, I seem to be on the mailing lists of far worse things!

However,

apart from seeing the name here and there.

I get plenty of other useless crap as well. I just happened to see
Heathen as the sender, and the title of the e-mail said something
about new website and the first two albums being on it for free listens.


If 80's thrash is something you like, I think you will like Heathen,
at least some.

Just started listening to this now, it does sound pretty good. Not sure how
it passed me by first time round.
I`ve just heard the new Megadeth aswell, it is quite impressive. Definately
the best since RIP. Need to give it a few more spins before I can say how
good it is, there are a few songs that passed me by somewhat but overall a
pleasant surprise.

Heathen were only on an independent record company, and they may not
have been widely promoted. It did take a bit of time between the
records as well. It's not hard to believe you might have missed them.
I think they were on the lower tier of thrash bands in the day, in
terms of well known, or sales. I don't think they toured a lot either.

I am going to have to find a listen to this, if it's that good.

Breaking the Silence was released by Combat Records (same label as early
Megadeth I believe) and Victims of Deception was on Roadrunner (the
label wasn't as big back in those days).

I`ve looked at the album covers, I definately remember seeing the first one
around. Someone I know must have had it, between us I`m sure we had just
about every thrash album that ever came out!

Back then Combat was a promising indie. They did have a rep, and I
don't know exactly what happened to them.
Back then, Roadrunner was a lot of thrash bands, and other assorted
underground metal. No Nickelback, Type O Negative or anything remotely
commercial for the most part.


There were ads in the trade mags back then for it. I thought that it
had amazing sound for an independent release. Back then a lot of indie
metal had a real indie sound. That album rivaled almost any early
thrash metal albums in terms of sound quality.
