With the release of "The System Has Failed", Megadeth fans will finally have
the chance to hear what truely par-excellence drumming sounds like. This
Vinnie Colaiuta guy is definitely the greatest drummer of all time and proves
once again on this new Megadeth disc what a master he is at his chosen
instrument. Not only does he possess world class chops and is proficient in
all styles of music, but he also has such impeccable groove. And most
importantly for this specific project, he flat out rocks. So enjoy this turn
of events, Megadeth fans. Now you are truly getting the goods.

Are you trying to tell us Nick Menza and Gar Samuelson are subpar
drummers or something?

Nothing against Vinnie Colaiuta, as his drumming on the new 'deth is
excellent, but calling him the greatest drummer of all time is
ridiculous. Stop being such a mindless fanboy.

Colaiuta is a great drummer. But to make this statement totally
dismisses great drummers like Menza and Samuelson. You are, without
doubt, a smacktard.

I'm sorry. I was only using Modern Drummer's description of the guy.

Can't help myself. I have heard the guy on so many releases in so many goddamn
differing situations, he blow my mind and curls my toenails. He is so
proficient at everything, ....I hate him.

THREE DAYS. That is all it took to hear the songs, take cursory direction,
create the parts and then to execute those parts with such fierce agression and
precision. Three fucking days....unreal.

And of all the drummers Dave worked with he said Menza's performances
were the best (wrt the prior Deth albums).

"unreal...."

I would expect that Menza's performances were the best. He was the drummer
with the band and worked side by side with the other members to make the music.

When did Mustaine make this statement regarding Menza? Was it recently
said...to promote the upcoming tour, now that Menza is back in the fold? Or
was this back before The System Has Failed was recorded?

He has also stated that Menza's ability as a drummer had deteriorated while in
Megadeth. He began as a nerd who had spent his youth practicing hours upon
hours and then became a heavy metal rock star. Then pussy and the rock start
life style became more important to him and rehearsal was not a priority any
longer.
I know that Mustaine has also stated then when Menza was asked if he could
handle playing on the new tour and the parts that Vinnie concocted, Menza
cockily said it would be a breeze. Mustaine had reservations, auditioned Menza
and found that his playing was not great but acceptable.

He had originally hoped that Colaiuta could do the tour...Colaiuta would be
too expensive and it was not to be.

Here is what he has said about Colaiuta while pushing the new album:

1) Mustaine was extremely nervous when Colaiuta came to work with him.
2) Vinnie took only three days to learn the songs, come up with his parts and
record them. Mustaine didn't want to waste time or money on endless rehearsals
and preproduction.
3) When Mustaine was forced to release the disc under the name Megadeth, he
pondered the idea of getting the Rust In Peace band to rerecord the tracks.
