I wasn't very impressed with St Anger. Much preferred Load and Reload.

I detest St Anger because it has no redeeming features at all, and I detest
this question because I'm sick of the fact that it is basically a no contest,
all of the regulars hate it, most of the irregulars hate it, everyone except
Lars, James, Bob, and the record company surely hates it (with the exception of
Limp Bizkit fans, but they're not really people are they)Kirk if he was honest
surely hates being reduced to a nobody due to the lack of solo's, and poor old
Rob is still gettting to grips with everything.

The only people that seem to like it are some old school fans that gave up
on Metallica in the early 90's and gave up listening to metal at the same
time. Now all of a sudden Metallica are apparently playing metal again
(*cough* bullshit *cough*) and they are back in love with their hero's. Ask
them if they have heard of Arch Enemy, At The Gates, In Flames, Soilworks,
The Crown or The Haunted and you get a blank stare.

It might not be the worst Metallica album according to some people, but I'd
definitely say it is. EVERY ALBUM had at least one song worth listening to,
while St. Anger does not, IMO. And, the sound quality on St. Anger is horrible.

And here's a story for ya, I fell asleep while listening to St. Anger in the airport
waiting for an international flight. (Yes, I missed the flight.) The songs give me
a very sleepy feeling. I don't know if it's just me or it's that way for everyone.
But that day was the last time I listened to St. Anger.

Also, there are absolutely no guitar solos on St. Anger!
I don't get what they were trying to prove with that. Maybe Kirk... I don't
know how the hell to finish that sentence. I mean wtf could cause Kirk
to not do any solos in the 6 months that they were recording their crap?

James' voice sounds a bit shitty on this album. Not the James from any other
Metallica album at all.
So, if they were trying to do thrashie stuff again, why the **** does James
sing like crap? instead of like their early albums?
Maybe he just didn't put enough effort into it.

There's no cool drumtracks in the album either. The drums can be heard constantly
without any certain rhythym.
I think we have Bob Rock to thank here for his outstanding performance on the bass.
And Lars can always be blamed for anything that goes wrong.

Now, go watch the Some Kind of Monster do***entary/interview video. It seems
that the band loves this album and they all worked on it equally. And evidently, the
band weren't communicating very well with eachother before this album. But St. Anger
was built on friendship and great communication and other nonsense.

I really don't get how they could possibly release such a horrible album.
I'd prefer listening to Load/Reload instead of St. Anger.

Now you give us your opinion.

I didn't really give up on them, I just thought they were letting whatever
they were listening to at the time heavily influence their own music. I
don't fault them for wanting to do different shit, if anything it shows that
they're anything but one dimensional. That being said, Load era ****ed ass
and the Black album was only slightly better. While St. Anger isn't what a
lot of people were expecting, I think it's at least a step in the right
direction.
