Default "Dark Side" Writing Credits.

Can anyone shed some light on the differences on credits between the original
album and on Pulse?

Witness:

Speak to Me - Mason (DS); Mason, Waters (P)
On The Run - Waters, Gilmour (DS); Waters, Gilmour, Wright (P)
Great Gig - Wright (DS); Water, Wright (P)

Is it:

a) the live versions were different enough to warrant different credits.

b) the credits have been changed recently to more reflect the original
creative input.

Discuss.

More likely, it's a legal matter.

I suspect it all came out of the legal crap between Waters and
Gilmour, with the former probably demanding more credit. I do
remember seeing sheet music of TGGItS credited as Music: Wright,
Lyrics: Waters, which I thought was funny. The lyrics, then, listed
in the song were No, I'm not frightened of dying. Why should I be
frightened of dying? There's no reason for it; you gotta go
sometime."

Legal matter stands for adding credits to Waters for 'Speak To Me' and
'Great Gig', but, it doesn't stand for credits to Wright for 'On the Run'.
Wright doesn't have to claim anything from Gilmour and Mason.

On thing I'm sure about, it can't be the answer 'a'. The reason is that they
couldn't add credit to Waters for 'Speak To Me' on Pulse just because it was
different live from studio. He didn't play at all on the live version.

Wrong. Legal settlements can involve distribution of
credits in ways that bear no relation to actual effort...it's
about making everyone happy financially, as much as
artistically. So if throwing RW a financial bone, by giving him co-credit
on On the Run, make shim and his lawyers happy,
then that's what gets done.

Wrong? You said 'Can' involve distribution....., i.e., it's just a not very
probable possibility. In fact, you get less chances that credit was given to
Rick Wright (not RW, because confusing) as per his lawyers request for
'possibly' undue financial happiness than Waters' lawyers would keep credits
from being given to Wright if no efforts came from him. No?

Depends on the negotiations. Where did they start? Wright may have
asked for a lot more and it would have behooved Gilmour-Mason to
support his requests by way of adding more credits in the catalog to a
current member of the band.
