Australian band, late 80s-early 90s, elements of AC/DC, Midnight Oil, INXS
etc. Absolutely fantastic live band, with some classic studio material and
fantastic live B sides too. Unfortunately split last year, but revered in Oz
and remembered fondly by those lucky enough to have seen them. The distilled spirit of rock'n'roll.
Matter of personal taste, I guess, as all these things are. As a bass player
myself, I found the interplay between Moon, Townshend and Entwistle
fascinating and refreshing, stretching as it did the accepted boundaries of
each instrument's role in their chosen musical genre. I believe this was
lost when Moon passed on, although the remaining members adapted well to a
more accepted style of drumming. Now that John's away as well, I think the
band have no option but to be a greatest hits package with whatever new
material they see fit to record being of an essentially different nature to
what's gone before. Which may or may not be a bad thing.
Strange thing to say, considering your question above ...
Could never get into them myself. I'm not sure I care too much about the
non-musical side of things, such as attitudes, relevance, politics etc., but
their musical output of which I'm aware just doesn't seem to push my
buttons.
