Default Gimme some new stuff to check out....

Some of you may know I'm an ex bassist from an early 90's death metal
band. Anyways, after a 5 or six year "burn out" stage, I've slowly
crawed back into the scene, and some of the new bands I admit, I don't
know of. I'd love some suggestions on some good bands, and album titles
to buy. I like ony the heavy stuff, or any thing musically worth having,
even if it's not death metal, or fast. I have some new stuff like Nile,
Opeth, and shit like that, but I see some shit in the stores, and it's
like, hmmm good cover, shitty music? I'm a big fan of my era bands like
Celtic Frost, Blood Feast, Death, Prong, Obituary, CrumbSuckers, God
Flesh, Post Mortem, stuff like that.

Early Soilwork, In Flames (I like latter day Soilwork but not latter day In
Flames)
Biomechanical (not really death, but has elements of all metal)
Decapitated
Disarmonia Mundi
Ensiferum - Iron (in particular)
Grimfist - Ghouls Of Grandeur
Grimfist - 10 Steps To Hell
Mors Principium Est - The Unborn
Mors Principium Est - Inhumanity
Norther - Till Death Us Unites
Scar Symmetry - Symmetric In Design
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress

others will post stuff like Amon Amarth and folky stuff too no doubt..but i
can't stand any of it

other good stuff

Byzantine (both albums are fantastic)

Iced Earth (everything except The Glorious Burdon and especially the
remastered stuff and Alive in Athens)
Hatesphere - The Sickness Within

Lamb of God - As the Palaces Burn / Ashes of the Wake / Sacrament
Trivium - Ascendancy / The Crusade

Unearth - III - In The Eyes Of Fire
Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
God Forbid - IV Constitution Of Treason
God Forbid - Gone Forever

You seem to be an old school 80`s fast thrash metal fan so the first pick is
blindingly obvious. Buy both Hazardous Mutation and Waste `em All by
Municipal Waste immediately!
Other than that...new albums by all the old favourites have been
consistently good lately...Exodus, Destruction, Kreator, Celtic Frost.
If you like Nile and old school death metal in general then the likes of
Decapitated (Nihility ), Behemoth ( Demigod ), Bloodbath ( either album ),
anything by Vader...especially Litany, The Crown ( Crowned in Terror ).
You really should try some Mastodon ( anything really ) if you`re not
familiar with them, not the fastest band around but heavy and original.
Gojira also are heavy as fuck...From Mars to Sirius is good.
Contrary to what Franky thinks I wouldn`t recommend you any folk / viking
metal from the list you gave above...although if you fancy something
different and have a penchant for stuff like The Pogues mixed in with a dash
of black and thrash metal you`ll have a hell of a lot of fun with Finntroll,
Ensiferum and Korpiklaani ( oops...just gone and recommended them! ).
If you`re a fan of latter day Death and technical death metal such as
Atheist then Anata, Spawn of Possession, Arsis, Gory Blister and Psycroptic
should hit the spot.
I`m duty bound to mention Nevermore...thrashy heavy metal...some are put off
by Dane`s vocals but they`re just about my favourite band of recent years.
Witchery are a good old school thrash band as well as Deathchain.
You haven`t mentioned if you like any black metal stuff at all so I`m
guessing you`re not bothered with it.
Franky mentioned a lot of melodeath bands, I`m not sure from your list and
what you`ve said whether you`d be a fan of them or not but his list was a
pretty good one ( although it didn`t mention the big hitter`s in the
melodeath field, Dark Tranquillity ). Actually, just noticed that Franky has
recommened Ensiferum which has really surprised me...so this is for
him...have you heard Wintersun?

There`s a shitload of stuff really, get on soulseek, there`s a few of us on
there that`ll point you to the good stuff.

I agree with Ian regarding the two Municipal Waste albums. You should
get on that right away.

Also:

Unleashed - Midvinterbolt
Behemoth - Demigod
High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings
Rumplestiltskin Grinder - Buried in my Backyard
The Crown - Hell is Here
Amon Amarth - With Oden on our Side
Immortal - Sons of the Northern Darkness
I - Between Two Worlds
Mastodon - Leviathan
Enslaved - Last 3 albums

Some other recent bands I like, but they lean more towards doom and
stoner rock:

Witchcraft - ST and Firewood
The Sword - Age of Winters
Wolfmother - ST
Witch - ST

Ah yes, another good old school album. I really should have mentioned
Funerot - Invasion from the Death Dimension as well, quality
thrash/crossover.

The other guys pretty much summed things up, so I'll try sticking to
adding bands you've not had recommended already.

Necrophagist - highly recommended technical death metal

Electric Wizard - if you like it heavy and slow sometimes, they don't
get much better.

Yob - the only band that are slower and heavier than Electric Wizard.
Yob are absolutely crushing.

Arch Enemy - worth checking out the earlier albums in my opinion,
features Michael Ammott formerly of Carcass.

Nightrage - Good melodic death metal

Isis - Progresssive, bleak and fairly original sounding, not everyones
cup of tea, but a must hear band in my opinion. Oceanic is the album to
try, their recent album is a departure from what they used to be, and
sounds somewhat like Tool.
