Been checking through my `08 downloads today

Avenger of Blood - Death Brigade - cool old school thrash.

Martriden - The Unsettling Dark - disappointing after the promising EP.
Found it a bit boring.

Zimmers Hole - When You Were Shouting at the Devil...We Were In League With
Satan - tongue in cheek thrashy old school stuff...I like it, good fun.

Debauchery - Continue to Kill - dull, generic early 90`s sounding death
metal...bored shitless with this kind of stuff.
Children of Bodom - Bloodrunk - pretty good, much better than recent output.

Noneuclid - The Crawling Chaos - This is fucking awesome. Think Voivod,
Akercocke and Atheist jamming together on a progressive thrash/death metal
album and you`re halfway there. I love it to bits.

Stormwarrior - Heading Northe - German power metal - cheesy fun.

Eluveitie - Slania - folky melodeath, love it.

Metalium - Incubus - decent old school trad/power metal.

Draconian - Turning Season Within - dirgy doom, not really my bag but OK.

Mercenary - Architect of Lies - melodeath with clean vocal harmony
choruses...good but the choruses spoil it somewhat.

Dark Suns - Grave Human Genuine - progressive metal...think Disillusion
mixed with Opeth without any fast bits. I`d probably slide this down Tom`s
end of the table. Bored me personally.

Artefact - Ruins - Impressive...reminded me of early Emperor mixed with some
technical melodeath.

I'm intrigued by the references to Lovecraft's writing in their name and album title.

Best release of the year for me so far.

I quite enjoyed this. Well executed DM.

Fucking awful. I managed somehow to get through the whole thing. I sought
medical help straight afterwards and now I am making a full recovery.

Thanks for the tip. AVOID AT ALL COSTS..;-)

Hmm a few things to check out then. If you can keep me informed of all the
folk and power metal releases, I can avoid any future suffereing..;-)

Admittedly it hasn`t been a great year so far but...it`s not that bad!!

If someone put it on I wouldn`t object. But it has no reason to exist.

Well, e hated the vocalist but liked the music so I`m guessing you`ll go the
same way.

I would never have recomended this to you.

Actually, if it wasn`t for the folky elements you`d have been the first
person I`d have taken Eluveitie to. It`s very typical melodeath for the most
part. Metalium...I saw them years ago and remember thinking they were pretty
awful. I just seem to have come round to this sort of stuff a lot more
lately. I thought the vocals were strong as well...reminded me more of a
Savatage sort of style than say a Dragonforce one.

I`m sure you`d like Artefact...possibly Zimmers Hole although it`s probably
too silly for you.

I went through a whole load of stuff and found few gems...my tolerance for
doing this is rapidly diminshing. Really, of all this stuff only Eluveitie
and Noneuclid are likely to hit more than 10 spins from me this year. A good
portion of this list I`ll never play again.

At the moment I can quite easily see this in my Top 10 of the year. Ticks
all the boxes for me.

Maybe you didn't listen to enough of it, did you miss the "fun" tracks?
They mix things up and I am sure if it was all heads down brutal DM I would
have got bored with it. Suggest you give the whole thing a listen..;-)

Well get on SS so I can get it then. Shhhh some people.

For some reason my dislike of Power Metal has just intensified and this was
like the final straw. If I never hear another sickly sweet, ball squeezing,
keyboard accompanied, cheesy chorus again I will count myself blessed. My
loathing of power metal is now of a similar level of grunge and nu-metal.
Please Iced Earth restore my faith.

I might risk getting one track of Eleveitie and Metalium, but prepare for
abuse should they fail the Wyrd Test..;-)

I can do silly, just depends on the quality of the music. Gwar is silly, but I like them.

Hate is such a strong word, but I didn't like the vocals on this,
either.
