No-ones done this for a while…
Judas Priest – Angel of Retribution + just about all their back catalogue
Dark Tranquillity – Character + The Gallery
Deep Purple – Machine Head
Manowar – Sign of the Hammer
Rainbow – Ritchie Blackmore`s Rainbow
Enslaved – Isa
Death Angel – Act III
Solefald – Pills Against the Ageless Ills
Disillusion – Back to Times of Splendour
Black Sabbath – Sabbath B***** Sabbath
Napalm Death – Order of the Leech
Saxon – Wheels of Steel
Megadeth – So Far So Good So What
I ain`t playing a whole lot of new stuff at the moment – anyone got any
Mombu 2012-06-25 22:40:35
This Rainbow thing seems out of place. It’s not very heavy is it?
I didn’t see Kreator on that list.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-25 22:40:40
Not at all, I love the first 3 Rainbow albums. The first one is kinda
bluesy, the other 2 are better but this is good if I`m in the mood.
Haven`t played it for a couple of weeks…us downloading thieving bastards
have had it since early december!!
I`ve just found the new Immolation and Hammerfall albums on soulseek so that
should keep me going…
Mombu 2012-06-25 22:40:42
I don’t think I’ve heard any of the full albums. Some of the songs
played on the radio, and that’s about it.
Hopefully you won’t get tired of them before they are actually
Ian salsbury 2012-06-25 22:40:45
You`ve never heard Rainbow Rising? Stargazer, A Light in the Black? You
Cailinsdad 2012-06-25 22:41:07
A personal favorite of mine as well!
Ian salsbury 2012-06-25 22:41:09
First impressions ( dangerous things I know! ) on these two and I won`t be
buying either. Immolation is OK, standard old school death metal – I don`t
really need anymore albums that sound like this to be honest. Hammerfall`s
first couple of NWOBHM/early Helloween style albums were great fun if a
little cheesy, of late they seem to have run out of ideas and outside of a
couple of tracks this album sounds a little tired.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-25 22:41:11
Stargazer is one amazing song, I can only assume Tom has only heard the
later stuff like All Night Long, I Surrender etc. Those early Ronnie Dio
albums were immense.
Wyrd 2012-06-25 22:41:14
Not played this yet.
It’s growing, but it will never be a classic..;-)
Ok here’s what’s been spinning recently.
Kreator – Enemy of God – for me better than VR and one of the best thrash
albums since Testament – The Gathering.
Dark Tranquillity – Character
Usurper – Cryptobeast
Strapping Young Lad – Alien
Exmortem – nihilistic contentment
Astral Doors – Evil is Forever
Soilwork – Stabbing The Drama
Immolation Harnessing Ruin
Pink Floyd – Echoes
Green Carnation – The Quiet Offspring
Black Label Society – Mafia
Wyrd 2012-06-25 22:41:16
Totally agree. Tom your metal education is severely lacking….go to the
back of the class. Noodle will be along to spank your a** later and as
punishment he will also attempt to rape you with his gerbil d***.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-25 22:41:18
It`s great, I`ve kinda discovered Priest of late after years of dismissing
them ( similar to how I mocked Saxon for years and then looked a right t***
when I realised I was wrong! )
I`d agree it`s not a classic, it is a really good album though. The Gallery
and Projector are their classics.
Not sure if it`s better than VR or not but it certainly oozes greatness.
Just d/l this, only played a couple of songs…not my favourite of bands
historically but I`m liking it so far.
I`ve an old album by this lot which is pretty good, have to check this out.
Who in blazes are this bunch?
Gave this a brief listen…I don`t really like recent Soilwork and this
seemed to continue the pattern
Have bored me in the past, doubtless this will do the same.
Drawing a blank on this one.
I`ve d/l the new Moonsorrow as well but haven`t got round to it yet, played
one song that didn`t know when to end itself.
Wyrd 2012-06-25 22:41:21
Well it’s been awhile since I spun VR so I cna be forgiven for siding with
EoG since it’s been in my player since I bought it…did you see
that….look again…yep it’s true..I actually bought something.
I would says it’s better than that. Some clueless moron from Metal Hammer
who shall remain nameless as he used be denizen of this hallowed place only gave it 5/10…f****** idiot.
I have pretty much liked most of their stuff and this is no exception.
Some Dio wannabee’s, it’s way OTT, you would love it.
Agreed. Pile of s***.
I quite like it.
I have played it once and I think I liked what I heard. I must start taking
notes about what I actually think about all these albums I listen to.
Mombu 2012-06-25 22:41:24
I guess they were a bit before my time. Back then, if you wanted to
hear something, you had to buy it, or have a friend who bought it.
That or just listen to what they played on the radio.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:42:51
Well, haven’t you got like 200 or more old school death metal
Cailinsdad 2012-06-27 11:42:53
I am close friends with the previous singer. It sounds pretty good
but I am extremely biased. The General was half the fun of this band.
I need to listen to it again objectively.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:42:59
Rainbow Rising is dirt cheap nowadays, you couldn`t go far wrong picking up
a copy. Long Live Rock`n`Roll is great as well, Gates of Babylon is one of
the metal songs of all time! I`d be very surprised if you didn`t love this
stuff knowing what other bands you like.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:43:01
I certainly have a fair few, stuff like the new Immolation just sounds like
a hundred other albums I`ve heard before.
Tj xenos 2012-06-27 11:43:03
Alabama Thunderpussy – constellation
Nattefrost – blood & vomit
Behemoth – demigod
Sleep – holy mountain
The new high on fire
Brutal Truth – goodbye cruel world

Dark Tranquility – character
Street Dogs – back to the world
Exhumed – slaughtercult: fester forever
Agoraphobic Nosebleed – honkey reduction
Destroyer 666 – phoenix rising
Hellhammer – apocalyptic raids
Napalm death – LnF2, BBC Sessions
St Vitus – s/t
Bruisers – better days
Negative Approach – Ready to Fight (demos/live)
Spirit Caravan – Last Embrace
Hidden Hand – divine propaganda, Mother Teacher Destroyer
Wrong side – wrong side of the grave
Slapshot – greatest hits slahses, and crosschecks
Fenriz presents old school black metal
Choosing death comp
YOB – illusion of motion
Recently watched – Priest Live DVD from box set, Maiden early years 2DVD
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:43:05
Hmm, not hard to guess who that may be…I seem to recall Noodle telling me
he`d reviewed a couple of other good albums wuth low scores lately. His time
away from USENET has obviously eroded his senses. Which is odd as it`s
usually the other way round!
I like it but the songs are painfully longer than they need to be. Of the
proper songs on the album ( not counting the final outro thing ), the
shortest one is 14 minutes! Not enough variation in them to go on that long.
Spleen merchan 2012-06-27 11:43:07
I never met anyone that didn’t like the first couple of Rainbow
And yes, Stargazer is a great song. Probably my favorite Rainbow
Wyrd 2012-06-27 11:43:08
Wyrd 2012-06-27 11:43:10
Well I enjoyed it, severly lacking in any form of orginality, but then
again, it’s a rare occasion to find anything particlurly original nowadays.
Orginality aside, what they do, they do well and it’s enjoyable. You can
also tell they enjoy playing and that’s what counts.
Dclizardking 2012-06-27 11:43:14
Tom is an odd one, you can never predict what he’d like.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:43:18
Noodle`s given him what he likes plenty of times.
Speaking of whom, he`s gone missing again, is it gay pride week in Iowa this
Dclizardking 2012-06-27 11:43:20
I think the magazine he’s working for has eroded his senses, they stopped
reviewing metal objectively a long time ago.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:22
I imagine I would like that. I’ve probably heard some of it, but
without seeing the full track listing I wouldn’t know for sure.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:24
So someone without a large collection of death metal, and is just
beginning to like death metal in general might well like it?
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:26
(Cut out list)
A standard question. How the h*** do you have so much time to listen
to that long of a list?
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:28
I don’t. I will admit that in my collection the number of full on
death metal, and not just the melodic kind either, has been growing.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:30
I already said I’d probably like the Rainbow stuff.
No, Noodles is in the hospital. I broke him.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:32

I like to keep it that way. I like all sorts of music, but usually
only like metal enough to buy it.
That said, I do have classical music CD’s I occasionally put on for
a change of pace.
I like some standard hard rock, radio rock that sort of stuff.
However, I don’t see much point in buying something that is played all
the time on the radio.
The only predictable thing about what I like is that it’s usually
stuff you’ll never hear played on the radio. Not commercial radio
Wyrd 2012-06-27 11:43:34
Poor Noodle he saw your todger and he couldn’t stop laughing. That can
Tj xenos 2012-06-27 11:43:42
I’m currently unemployed first of all. Second of all, I always have
music on. I watch my tv muted and read the captions (on the occasions
it’s even on). Thirdly i have a 300 disc changer. Last but not least,
thats pretty much everything that I’ve listened to in the last handful
Dclizardking 2012-06-27 11:43:43
Of course it is, and he’s leading the parade.
Mombu 2012-06-27 11:43:45
I guess that answers that. Good luck on finding a new job.
Nodeerforamont 2012-06-27 11:43:47
ROTFLOL! I almost spit up my beer after reading that!
Long Live Rock ‘n Roll!
Brutalnoodle 2012-06-27 11:43:51
All That Remains
Dclizardking 2012-06-27 11:44:01

Actually, Rainbow bores me.

Brutalnoodle 2012-06-27 11:44:15
The new Usurper just crushes!
Brutalnoodle 2012-06-27 11:44:17
Had it for like 2 weeks. Thought you knew!
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:44:19
Words fail me.
Ian salsbury 2012-06-27 11:44:20
It`s been all over SS for ages. Even Tom ( who consider`s downloading to be
the work of Satan ) has crumpled and got a copy.
Mombu 2012-06-29 02:00:57
You expected anything else out of Noodles?
Brutalnoodle 2012-06-29 02:01:04
We’re used to it.
