Local radio confirming
Actually, that's not uncommon either. Usually the station buys the
interview from the station that originally did it, and then they air it
as their own, putting in their own DJs asking the questions. Sometimes
the pass it off as their own interview, and other times the turn it into
a news story with soundbites. 90% of radio is smoke-and mirrors.
In fact it's also common for interviews to have never "originally" aired
as a "real" interview -- the interview was just recorded in order to be
sold to many different stations. Our local guy had an interview with
the lawyers for the lady in Texas that drowned her 3 kids -- there's no
way he would have really landed that interview.
You can tell if an interview is "fake" by paying attention to whether or
not the interviewee talks about anything local, and whether or not the
interviewor and interviewee talk at the same time. If it's cut-and-dry
question-answer-question-answer, it's probably not a live interview.
Sometimes this as done as a comedy bit -- the DJs will be talking with
the president, or some other totally out of reach person for a local DJ
to get an interview with, and it's supposed to be funny. I did an
interview with "President Clinton" when I was on the air once... it was
a voice impersonator of course.
