POSITION TITLE: Instructor/Coordinator, Marine Science & Technology (12-month) Pay Level & Step: 32/01 - 34/12 Annual Salary: $28,803.12 - $49,356.10 Location: As Terlaje Campus, Saipan Opening Date: 11/10/03 Closing Date: 11/24/03 or Until Filled Nature of the Position: The position is located in Northern Marianas College’s Division of Instruction, under the direct supervision of the Chair of the Science, Mathematics and Technology Department. It is charged with the responsibility of assisting the College to fulfill its educational mission by providing instruction in various science courses and assisting in coordinating our Marine Science and Technology program. Performance Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Marine Science and Technology Instructor/Coordinator (MSTC) is to instruct marine science and marine technology courses and assist in coordinating the Marine Science and Technology arm of the Science, Mathematics, and Technology Department (SMTD). The following responsibilities will be required of the MSTC. This list is not exhaustive but represents some of the more important responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Teaches a total of twenty-five (25) credit hours, five (5) science and/or marine technology courses (each course is 3 hours lecture and 3 hours lab per week), per academic year (2 courses in the Fall and Spring, and 1 course during Summer semester). The courses will primarily be related to Marine Science and Marine Technology. The ideal candidate would have strong background/academic training in both the Marine Sciences and Marine Technology. A Masters degree or higher in Marine Biology, or related field, with a rating of Master Diver and Certification in Basic Seamanship is required. Applicants with a Doctoral degree will be given preference. Extensive experience in tropical marine waters scientific research is a definite plus. 2. Prepares and revises curriculum, course guides, and syllabi for courses taught. Assists in the creation of new courses related to Marine Biology, Oceanography, and Marine Technology. 3. Writes, and assists in the writing, of federal and private, program-supporting grants. 4. Supervises and participates in the maintenance of all Equipment (compressors, regulators, BC’s, cascade tank air system, boat, etc.) used in our SCUBA diving and data collection activities. 5. Assists in the development of NMC's new Marine/Environmental Sciences Center. 6. Is highly knowledgeable of small boat handling, maintenance, and repair procedures. 7. Will assist in regional Sea Grant development efforts. 8. Has excellent interpersonal skills to deal with island and regional marine scientists and resource managers and other members of the faculty. 9. Is skilled in Search and Rescue techniques and certified in CPR and First Aid. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from a U.S.-accredited institution in Marine Biology or related field.
