Telecom - Alliant Energy currently has an opportunity in Cedar
Rapids, IA for a Lead Telecommunications Engineer. This position
will perform complex telecommunications network ****ysis, design,
implementation, and maintenance for the entire company. Key
Responsibilities: • Performs complex telecommunications work
requiring advanced knowledge of theory and practices. • Performs
advanced engineering studies to determine requirements, long
range engineering plans, and designs of telecommunications
systems. • Ensures the design, implementation, and maintenance
of mutiplexers, channel bank, two-way radio, packet radio,
multiple address radio systems, microwave, and fiber optics and
other private and or leased telecommunication networks • Designs
telecommunication equipment rooms, including but not limited to
power, heating and air-conditioning, grounding and lightning
protection • Provides support for SCADA (electric, gas and
water), automated meter reading, demand-side electric load
management, paging, LAN/WAN, PBX, VRU, voice mail, and cellular
phone systems. • Works with inter-company planning groups on
joint telecommunications studies or projects • Responsible for
obtaining and verifying necessary data and communicating plan
developments with field personnel • Reviews and/or completes FCC
permits and license applications. • Ensures communications
records, prints, and files are maintained. • Specifies, reviews
and or prepares "as built drawings", material requisitions, and
initiates and designs engineering packages. • Provides budget
and cash flow information, and travels and provides after hours
support Technical/Job Skill Qualifications: • Education
equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with
a degree in engineering, preferably electrical • A minimum of six
years of experience in progressively more responsible
telecommunications engineering work • Ability to plan for and
carry out advanced engineering projects using knowledge of
equipment, industry standards and practices, state codes, etc.
