I know this is somewhat off topic but,
Have you all heard that the Canadian Music Industry is going to the Supreme
Court to try to get ISP's to pay them $$$ for music that their users
download?!!!
I mean, they already get media levy's, and still don't acknowledge that
copying music is therefore legal because of it. (according to law, it's
legal in Canada to download from p2p, and burn copies for yourself, or
borrow a cd, and make a copy for yourself. It's only not legal to make a
copy of your cd, and give that copy to someone... you have to give them the
cd and let them make it for themselves. weird, but true).

They want their cake, and want to eat it too, and want seconds!
Yikes!

Sorry, but that's my rant for today

It'll pass you watch and we'll all have to pay an extra $1.

But that's the cost of burning/copying copyrighted
music/videos/software/etc i guess.

Yup.

But, since we are paying media levy's, the (almost) whole process of burning
music has been made legal in Canada.
The Canadian Recording Industry has already made $20 Million on the small
levy that currently exists.
Can you imaginge how much they will make if they get the levy increase, a
levy applied to hard drives, a levy on ISP's!

They blame music piracy for low sales. If that is the case, why are music
sales UP in Europe?
Greedy, greedy, greedy.

I say if the various 'Recording Industries' want to attack their
(potential) customers and kill themselves off I say go ahead. I
haven't bought a new or used cd since 'Metalicrapa' killed Napster.

Then tehres the fact that stuff coming out now is shit, they only
sell cds so the kids can say 'I got (whoever) new shit, sure its shit
but I got it'.

It was just announced a couple of days ago, no new levies, and no increases
on current levies for 2004.

It was also announced, that dloading songs from a P2P service is LEGAL in
Canada. You can't UPLOAD, but you can Downoad. The law in Canada says that
you can make a copy of a song for personal use. It doesn't say WHERE the
song is supposed to come from. Needless to say, the RIAA is kinda pissed
about the ruling! Here is the link

It's also legal to give a cd to someone and have them make a copy of it for
themselves.
It's not legal to make the copy yourself and then give the copy to someone.
Hehe, screw the RIAA etc!

Cd sales in Europe have INCREASED over the past few years. So there goes the
theory that says music sales drop in North America is due to copying, etc.
