FS: Rare, Amberg Patent Cabinet Letter File - 6 drawer (Cabinet)
I am selling an Amberg's Patent Cabinet Letter File.
This Beautiful, Oak Cabinet has hinged doors concealing 6 flat,
letter-size file drawers. It is finished on all four sides. Cabinet
measures approximately 13" D x 18" H x 31" W.

One drawer has no front label. All drawers have unused "record" sheets
attached to them. Most drawers have the printed, brown Amberg index
sheets, a couple have blank, brown replacements.
There doesn't seem to be a lot if info available on-line regarding
Amberg letter files, but here's what I know... My parents picked up
this piece at an antique sale in Oregon during the mid-'70s; I've had
it in Las Vegas, Nevada for about 8 years. The top also has some
minor, water ring damage due to being used as a coffee table (a great
use for it, if you have a small space) in previous years. The rest of
the piece is in very good condition. The finish is original; it has
never been refinished or restored.
I'm not quite sure of its exact age, but I estimate that it's at least
100 years old.
Cameron Amberg & Co., the predecessor of the Amberg File and Index
Co., was established in 1868 and made its first Cabinet Letter Files
in 1875. The metal devices in some of its drawers bear an 1878 patent
date. In 1881, 1,000 firms were using its cabinets.
