Turkey probes official who ordered novelist's books destroyed

ANKARA, March 30 (AFP) - 16h55 - The Turkish interior ministry is
investigating an official who ordered the seizure and destruction of
works by novelist Orhan Pamuk for making a reference to the massacre
of Armenians, the Anatolia news agency said Wednesday.

Pamuk, author of several novels including "My Name Is Red," "The White
Castle" and "The New Life," caused an outcry when he said in an
interview with a Swiss newspaper that "one million Armenians were
killed in Turkey."

The statement appeared to contradict official denials of an Armenian
genocide.

Furious at the remark, deputy governor Mustafa Altinpinar of Sutculer
in the Mediterranean province of Isparta, issued a circular ordering
all copies of Pamuk's books to be confiscated from local libraries and
bookstores and destroyed.

"The author has made baseless, slanderous and injurious accusations
against the Turkish nation," the circular said.

A search of local bookshops and libraries, however, failed to produce
a single copy of Pamuk's books, newspapers said.

"I issued the order in reaction to Pamuk's remarks over the Armenians,
but now I wish I had first checked to see whether there were any of
his books in our town," Altinpinar was quoted as saying by the daily
Radikal.

The governor of Isparta province, Isa Parlak, immediately announced
that Altinpinar had "abused his authority." He cancelled the order,
while Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu ordered an investigation,
Anatolia said.

The massacre of Armenians during World War I is one of the most
controversial episodes in Turkish history.

Armenians say up to 1.5 million of their kinsmen died in orchestrated
killings during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, the predecessor
of modern Turkey.

Turkey instead says that 300,000 Armenians and thousands of Turks were
killed in civil strife when the Armenians rose against their Ottoman
rulers.

Pamuk, one of Europe's most prominent novelists, has been translated
into more than 20 languages. He lives in Istanbul.

Obviously, Orhan Pamuk is an irrisponsible and dishonest man;
disregarding what Armenians did during WWI and during 1970s and '80s.
He is also disregarding what PKK terrorists have been doing now. He is

absorbed in his own interests big time. He does not hesitate to exploit

anything including history (past and present) religion (Islam) and
anything that he things might benefit the sales of his six books he


If it is true that Orhan Pamuk said "It is time for Turkey to accept
responsibility for the accusions of genocide against the Armenians ",
the only reason is to exploit the history for his own petty benefits.

The thugs of Greek/Armenian/PKK Anti-Turkish Hatred Inc., all their

defenceless Turkish people have to learn well that democracy IS NOT
tolerance to terrorism or terrrorists; democracy IS NOT a freedom for

Now under the new law, no terrorist, including the thugs of
Greek/Armenian/PKK Anti-Turkish Hatred Inc., their supporters, and the
murderers, ****rs and torturers of innocent and defenceless Turkish

- Praise a committed crime or a person who committed this crime

- Instigate a part of the people having different social class, race,
religion, sect or region to hatred or hostility against another part of
the people in a way dangerous for the public security

- Do any Propaganda of an organization founded for committing crime

- Spread confidential information on a legal investigation

- Insulting the President of the Republic

- Insult to the Turkish flag or to anything having the Turkish State's
symbol

- Insulting the Turkish national identity, the Republic or the Grand
National Assembly of Turkey

- Act against fundamental national interests for directly or indirectly
receive benefits from foreign persons or institutions

- Instigate the people against military service

- Spread unfounded news or information during a war

- Unveil the information that should remain confidential for the sake
of the State's security or its internal and external political
interests

- Unveil, with the purpose of political or military spying,the
information that should remain confidential for the sake of the State's
security or its internal and external political interests

- Unveil the information that is forbidden by the competent authorities
and should remain confidential because of its nature

- Unveil, with the purpose of political or military spying, the
information that is forbidden by the competent authorities and should
remain confidential because of its nature

No country on Earth will allow any terrorist or its enemies commit such
crimes. Certainly, Turkey has a right to defend itself against
terrorist and its enemies.

Who will naturally complain about laws like that? Who else other than
the very terrrorist organizations and emenies of Turkey like PKK/KADEK
terrorist organization and others.

Article 301 (new form of Article 145) - Insult to the Turkish flag or
to anything having the Turkish State's symbol (crescent and star): up
to 3 years (if committed by a Turkish citizen abroad: to be increased
one-third); Insult to the Turkish national anthem: up to 2 years (if
committed by a Turkish citizen abroad: to be increased one-third).

Article 302 (new form of Article 159) - Insulting the Turkish national
identity, the Republic or the Grand National Assembly of Turkey: up to
3 years (if committed by a Turkish citizen abroad: to be increased
one-third); Insulting the Turkish Government, the judicial organs,
military or security institutions: up to 2 years (if committed by a
Turkish citizen abroad: to be increased one-third).

Article 306 - Acting against fundamental national interests for
directly or indirectly receiving benefits from foreign persons or
institutions: up to 10 years. (According to the statement of reasons


declares that the Armenian genocide actually took place during the
First World War, can be pursued by virtue of this article).

Article 319 - Instigating the people against military service: up to 2
years (if committed by the means of media, to be increased one-half).

Article 324 - Spreading unfounded news or information during a war: up
to 10 years (if committed as a propaganda campaign against the military
and in accordance with a foreigner, up to 20 years).

Article 330 - Unveiling the information that should remain confidential
for the sake of the State's security or its internal and external
political interests: up to 10 years (if committed during the war or the
preparation of the war: up to 15 years).

Article 331 - Unveiling, with the purpose of political or military
spying, the information that should remain confidential for the sake of
the State's security or its internal and external political interests:
Life prison.

Article 337 - Unveiling the information that is forbidden by the
competent authorities and should remain confidential because of its
nature: up to 5 years (if committed during the war or the preparation
of the war: up to 15 years).

Article 338 - Unveiling, with the purpose of political or military
spying, the information that is forbidden by the competent authorities
and should remain confidential because of its nature: up to 15 years
(if committed during the war or the preparation of the war: life
