BZK (cough allergic down corticosteroid sprays throat)
Hi Andrew
Before and after surgery I used a rhinocort turbohaler (no additives). About a
year after surgery my surgeon suggested that I move to Nasonex (which has BZK).
Prior to surgery I had had a cough due to dripping from the polyps down my
throat, the cough being most noticeable when I was caught in a cold draught of
air, the dripping from the polyps wasn't really so noticeable (I had originally
gone to the doctor about the persistant cough).
The Nasonex caused a much more aggressive, more fluid drip and I also started
with bad sore throats. I switched back to the Rhinocort Turbohaler and the
symptoms vanished.
My surgeons assumption was that I had some allergic reaction to the BZK, but it
made no sense to investigate this when the switch back to the turbohaler solved
the problem. I have no idea if this is typical of BZK but it is my experience.
Of course the symptoms may have had been caused by an intolerance to other
component of Nasonex, but BZK does seem the likely culprit.

Does anyone know which nasal corticosteroid sprays do not have BZK other
than Rhinocort?
If BZK were causing me some problems, what would the symptoms be?
Thanks --
Andrew
