Ok. For all of you experienced moms and dads. . .

My husband and I have started buying up diapers. We have been told by more
than one source that triplets will go through a bag of diapers per day, so
we thought we would get started stocking up. We are trying to buy different
brands to see which one we liked best. We have a couple of different kinds
of Pampers (swaddlers, Baby-dry), Huggies, White Cloud (Wal-Mart), and
Dri-bottoms, and are still planning on buying Luv's and the Meijer Store
brand.

When we have asked friends, they tell us to stay away from the Pampers and
go with the cheaper brands. One friend says she loves the Wal-mart brand.
She says they don't hold as much, but do you really want your baby sitting
around in that stuff. Another friend said that they use Luv's. And another
one told me that the Pampers leaked, and the elastic around the legs caused
an allergic reaction.

So, I would like other people's opinions as well. It looked like the NICU
at the hospital used Pampers Swaddlers . . . but those were preemie sizes.

We would really like to use a diaper service, but the one closest to our
house is a few towns away, and they don't "come this way."

I have twins and this is what we use:

I use Pampers at night (or on outings) and store brand during the day.
In the beginning we went through a lot of diapers because to get them to
wake up during nursing we would change diapers. Also, they crapped just
about every time you fed them. ;-)

We tried Huggies but they gave DS a diaper rash.

To stop leaks, after you put the diaper on, ****** run your finger
around the leg of the diaper and pull out the inner elastic. ****** It
took us a few weeks to figure that one out.

With my first I used Luvs - before they switched tot he god awful scratchy
"cloth like" cover. I tired the new ones with DD and they were horrid! We
tried huggies - they didn't go over well, every time DD is in one she gets a
rash. We tried a few store brands and I was never impressed, most leaked
like it was going out of style (babies r us, target, Costco, Walgreens) We
ended up using the Pampers swaddlers and now the cruisers - they're great!
We haven't had any problems with them, no rashes, gel, strange smells (aside
from the big stinks she makes!) The hospital sent us home with Pampers too -
though she went through most of them before we even left.

Every baby is different though - you may find that one brand works best for
one baby but not the others. I would put money aside to stock up on what you
know will work once they get here rather then stock up on a bunch of diapers
you won't/can't use.

I disagree a bit. With triplets they need all the backup
stock they can provide. I'll never forget friends who
(in the very earliest days of disposables) brought their
new baby home on Saturday with only one pkg. of diapers,
12 count. She had gone through them all by Sunday noon.
This was still the days of Blue Laws in Connecticut when
stores were not allowed to open Sundays so they weren't
able to buy more and ended up "diapering" her in dish
towels till Monday morning.

Even if they aren't ideal, at least they will have
SOMETHING available to diaper the babies with till
they decide on frequency, style, and size of diapers
they'll need.

The only way you will know is to experiment. Different diapers work
differently for different babies.

For sheer cost alone, If I were having triplets I would consider cloth,
except for the whole washing thing. With three, I don't think I could handle
the time! (and I know someone will come in and challenge this Too bad the
diaper service doesn't work for you. Could you really beg and plead? Heck,
why would they want to miss out on the business TRIPLETS will bring in?!

I have tried Pampers and Huggies, but my all-time favorite is the Kroger

We've tried Huggies and Luvs, but have ended up sticking with the Pampers
Swaddlers/Cruisers. They just feel better (not as stiff as cheaper brands),
never gave my daughter a rash, hold well even on my skinny and very active
baby, and, while they are more expensive, I always seem to manage to find
them on sale or get a coupon for a couple of dollars off. (Pampers.com will
even send you a ton of coupons, if you don't mind getting hit with other
promotional "specials" and no doubt having your info. sold). I also love
the "cloth" covers -- you can adjust and readjust the diaper all day if you
need to. It's great, particularly when they get bigger and really squirmy
and you have to try to diaper them standing up...

That's a good idea. I think I will try to play that card when I talk to
them next.

I think a couple of folks have posted about three in home-laundered cloth
diapers (twins and a sibling) at a time, but triplets really is different. I
have known people who did cloth with triplets, but not washing their own.

I was TURNED DOWN for one diaper service because of twins. They said they
didn't want that many diapers out at one house at one time. It makes no sense
to me, but there you are. Fortunately I was in a town with more than one diaper
service, but it's hard to find any at all, most places.

Diaper service is a really good deal for multiples, because the main cost is
for pickup and delivery, the additional cost for more diapers is quite low. But
it sounds as though it won't work for the OP, more's the pity.
