Tomato-Citrus allergy ?

I have been battling this itchy rash on my neck since last September.
It started as some itchy patches on the front of my neck and soon spread
down my chest and stomach and on my legs. After consulting a Doctor,
we assumed that the rash was caused by the steady diet of tomatoes last
summer (from my vegetable garden) and that a little abstinence along
with some allergy med. Would take care of the problem and then I could
return to eating tomatoes (in moderation)
Here I am 6 months later and the problem is still there. I can take Clarinex
and it will go away temporarily, but will return as soon as I stop taking it
or go on a tomato binge. It doesn't seem to be limited to just tomatoes.
I now have the same problem whenever I eat oranges, lemon juice and vinegar.
I don't want to stay on Clarinex. It can't be that good for you long term and
it's
expensive. Am I assuming correctly that this is an allergy to the acid in
these
foods ?
Does anyone have any suggestions or any experience with this kind of situation
?
Thanks in advance,
Rick
