I had a prostatectomy December 22nd. The Catheter was removed Jan.5th. I'm
doing the exersise 100 times a day but I'm still experiencing urin dripping
and I woke up 5 or 6 times at night to go to the washroom.When can I expect
a little improvment?. I was told it will take 6 weeks to recover but I'm
eager to feel some improvement.

There is great variation in how long it takes to become continent.
Walsh reports in his book that at Hopkins, their experience is that half
of all RP patients are continent at 3 months and by one year practically
all are continent. It is pretty early in the game. You should be
patient. If you can actually control the stream to some extent, you are
ahead of the game.

Walk.......exersize, drink lots of water.....Wear pads, practice turning it
on and off.
You sound like you are healing!
I think improvement is on the way.

There is a tremendous variation from individual to individual. I had
the catheter in for almost three weeks. There was gradual improvement
until no pads were required after 4-1/2 months. The last six weeks
were marginal need for pads(one small pad per day but not fully used).
It will come slowly but surely. Some days will be better than others.
I wish you the best for a speedy recovery.

My progress is parallel to yours, Steve, 3 months post-op I'm squirting
just a little, but only enough to partially use a small pad --- not
quite brave enough to quit using the pad.

Be patient, vlojszqn, it may be slow progress, but you'll make it!

Make sure to do a few things to keep clean and dry. I developed a severe
case of diaper rash. The doctor prescribed ELIDEL. Air drying yourself
in the evening is a good idea. Also use a protection cream that has zinc
oxide in it. I use an all natural brand from the health food store. Also
use a non-talc baby powder. As to what kind of pads to use, it takes
experimenting. The POISE pads come on all sorts of sizes. When walking
you find it might mess more so I carry a small roll of VIVA paper towels
as they are super soft and it helps clean up, dry areas. I've also taken
to showering twice a day to keep clean.
As for how long you'll be leaking, well join the club. I did so much
research on what kind of treatment to get that the incontinence issue
got overlooked. And there doesn't seem to be as much hard and fast info
about the various stages and types of leaking. I constantly leak all the
time. and it's been about 22 days so far since the catheter. There are
websites devoted to this entire issue.
But I think getting used to it will be the thing to do. I wear a
DEPENDS diaper that is one solid waist band, then various sized pads
inside that depending on the activity. It keeps my pants from getting
wet and is lots easier to change on the go. Except the 'go' part has
been limited because being so wet takes some getting used to. I found my
women friends could really sympathize as they go through these kinds of
things their whole lives. Just plan to carry pads and note where rest
rooms are when out when when walking. Unless of course you live in the
country then you can ''do a superman'' anywhere but remember to bring a
large baggie to put the used pad into.
I look at the bright side and say what better time of the year to have
this issue? Unless of course you work outside like I was scheduled to
