Back from the hospital
Thanks for your support. So far the liver pain has been brought
under control with taxol, and the bone pain is kept in check by
pamidronate. However, the liver is failing to remove excess ammonia
(a byproduct of protein metabolism). She's been prescribed Lactulose
for this condition, but it's difficult to titrate. Some days it gives her
uncontrolled diarrhea, while other days it seems to do nothing. She
often has borderline chronic hepatic encephalopathy, presenting
with hallucinations and greatly diminished mental acuity.
