Something seems wrong, with the way this research is being done.

The professors at universities vie for research money from drug
companies, ... then focus on working with & testing that company's drugs
only, to their specifications, ... in unversity systems that are often
public-subsidized, supported. This appears a serious conflict of
interest.

These same professors are also in surgery for much of each day, removing
breasts or whatever, to earn maximum money for the university, ...
and/or they're required to teach classes, & teach students basic
surgical skills.

So, when is the research getting done? And how objective &
patient-focused can it be, with the corporations controlling & directing
it for their own benefit, for maximum greed (for bottom line profits)
only?

These special interests can also affect what treatments are & aren't
offered to patients, both at the universities & elsewhere.

This system hasn't been & isn't working well. It's causing so much
pain, suffering & loss. And it's such a serious waste of patient's
time, money & resources.

Since the medical system is still (is set up to be) such a failure, ...
much of its focus seems geered towards the pain-killer-type &
lobotomy-type drugs, which also don't work well, if at all.

For many reasons, cancer "care" super-s*cks. It's so full of cons &
false promises, ... then only proves harmful & destructive, a rip-off.

Susan, research isn't physically done by university professors, it's done by
PhD students. Usually the professor sets the line of research, then puts
his name on whatever papers are published, possibly even reading them first.
It isn't terribly time consuming.

At least, that's how it worked in the lab I worked in after I graduated.
Actually I tell a lie, my own professor did sometimes turn up and don a
white coat, but he was in the minority around the department.

Here in the US - Susan is right, many of the same physicians are the
same researchers. Most have dual appoitments medical school and
hospital, the grunt work is done by lower level people. In my
institution the physicians are not allowed to get any freebies or
gifts, there is a effort to keep pharmacy and research seperate.

There are individuals like that. However, I think in the main, there are
very bright, devoted,
caring people who dedicate their lives to making a difference. Remember
that there is lots of peer review, and professors have to get and keep
tenure. The ones who are just out for their own
greed and money get weeded out. Do some people love the money? Sure. Do
they just put out bogus crap to get it? They can't.

prosecute.]

Me bad. Me bad.

To the best of my understanding, the university I was reading about
(Baylor, Methodist Hospital, Houston TX), has a surgeon as the head of
its breast center, & of the research (including the meds) being done
there. Of course, his team includes oncologists.

I'm trying to find a reason to like or trust them again, & to see if
they could have any useful or helpful information, ... that is, to see
what their special interests are, from which corporations they get
outside funding, ... & how this might buy (bias & prejudice) their
judgement, pursuit of research, & research results.

I'm desperate for information & good referral (which I can't get), & am
so very, very tired & discouraged.

So far, it doesn't look good, & looks as if AstraZ___? (Arimidex?) has
paid them. I'll have to check that article again though, & read every
word to be sure.

For universities to do this, appears to be a conflict of interest, which
can prove harmful & deadly to the patients who seek care there.

So far, I can't get information or referral to good basic medical care,
cancer treatment after-care, or alternative cancer care, ... from the
medical community here in East Texas.

M D Anderson is much the same. Just chemo & rads, the estrogen-blocking
drugs, & then nothing, ... aka (basically) '"We've screwed & robbed you,
destroyed your health, & are now abandoning you. So why can't you crawl
off & suffer to death quietly, like all the others? (smirk) Give up.
Don't try."

It's tough.
