Yes, my daughter had a bout of this when she was in high school. She took a
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and it cleared. If I recall correctly, it
took a little time. I'm sorry you are experiencing the pain of this. Thank
goodness it's not related to BC. Hope you feel better real soon.

Yes, I had this about 13 years ago. It was very painful. As I recall, I
had weekly injections, steroids I think, where it hurt. Also, I took
Naprason (sp?) a few times a day. I believe it took several months to
resolve. But on the bright side, it has never come back. Good luck!

It is pretty common. There are joints between the ribs and the spine
that allow for up and down motion of the ribs when breathing. There are
no joints at the breastbone (sternum). Instead, there is a segment of
flexible cartilage between the end of the bony rib and the sternum. The
poin where the bone turns to cartilage is vulnerable; just as an iron
cord breaks right where it comes out of the iron, that transition leads
to damage to the cartilage. Anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen,
naproxen, aspirin, Relafen, DayPro, and a number of others usually help.
