Default Anything to this anti-amalgam stuff?

I'm not a pro in the dentistry field, I've had some work on my teeth
and have some amalgams, I feel great, sometimes I read this newsgroup.

I've noticed that the anti-amalgam people here come off as
crack-smoking quack biatches - What's up with that?

I'm wondering if some level headed pro's can give us the REAL cons of
amalgam. If nothing else, to educate the anti-amalgam biatches so
there's a better signal to noise ratio in this newsgroup. Thanks.

http://www.dentalmaterial.gov.se/Mercury.pdf

If you are indeed seriously open minded about the topic this may be a good
place to start. Also do a good PubMed search. Take note of the fact that so
many non dental journals (environmental, neurology, kidney, general practice,
cardiology...) note the negatives and potential dangers of increasing bodily
burden of Hg via amalgams. Yet when you read 98% of dental journal studies it
talks of the marvelous beauty of Hg amalgam. Interesting case of CYA.

In fact mercury amalgams are the primary source of systemic mercury in the
human population. (see figure below)

Source Average Human Daily Dose of Mercury
Dental Amalgam 3.0 - 17.0 ug/day (hg
vapor)
Fish and Seafood 2.3 ug/day (methylmercury)
Other Food 0.3 ug/day (inorganic
hg)
Air & Water Negligible traces

(World Health Organization, Environmental Health Criteria 118: Inorganic
Mercury, Geneva, 1991.)

We've done it many times over the years, but here is a brief recap.

Amalgam is a good filling material for small to medium carious lesions
in posterior teeth.

Advantages:

easy to place
inexpensive
wear resistant

Disadvantages:

esthetics
does not bond to the tooth (therefore needs mechanical retention by
remaining tooth structure)

I begin to wonder - why the obsession with amalgam if the ill effects are such
nonsense? Your obsession reinforces to me that maybe there is something going
on here.
As a Nutritionist, when someone tells me how Dr. Barefoot's Coral Calcium cured
their______ I just smile and say "the science does not really support that
connection but im glad your feeling better". I dont post 1000 nonsensical
derisions and attack and impune the person who made the statement.

Dear Mr. Furi Geller,

the reason is simple : most of the anti-amalgamists are plain nuts
psychopaths. They are steered by naturopath mafia agents.

Some material about amalgam is on my web-site :
http://www.ariplex.com/ama/ama_p0.htm

The site is bi-lingual.

Ironically, all of Jan Drew's pseudoscience HELPS the dentists
financially and often hurts the patients when complications arise!
Ever see the patient who no longer can chew on the recently installed
composites and then needs root canal and crown?

Why not sometimes leave well enough alone?

I refrain from agreeing with the patient's pseudoscience, however, if
someone wants to remove UNSIGHTLY amalgam, is willing to pay for it,
then I am enthusiastic too.

Of course then Jan rolls into "composite compatibility testing" and
"proper protocol," both of which are total unmitigated nonsense!

Now we can make money on that too at the risk of defrauding our
patients!
