Default Apthous stomatitis

Anyone here have some new ideas on dealing with mouth sores?

Triamcinolone helps after they start, but I am concerned about
using steroids over a long period of time.

I also find that a low carbohydrate diet helps me (amazingly.)

Any thoughts or insights from those with knowledge and experience out
there?

The pain is unbelievable, so...

Thanks in advance!

I agree that using steroids over an extended period is inadvisable.
This is somewhat apocryphal, but I've heard that l. acidophillus tabs
(available at any health food store) help restore oral bacterial balance
and are useful for lessening the frequency and severity of flareups.
For symptomatic relief, apply Orabase (doesn't need the
triamcinalone) before eating to the lesion(s)

Ok, not a medical practitioner in any way, but as I understand it they're
frequently associated with celiac disease and many people find that their
celiac symptoms get better when they start low carbing (well, naturally,
you're eating far less wheat than most people normally do). Is there a
possibility you have celiac?

There's a bunch of information on celiac disease on the web. Here's a link
to the Mayo Clinic's list of symptoms, but celiac seems to be a tricky one
in that many people can have it and have few symptoms or otherwise not
conform to the classic presentation:

Just something to explore.

I would only add that some patients benifit from reduction in acidic
food consumption ie. citrus fruits, tomatoes, etc... and spicy foods.

Kenalog in orabase woks well for severe cases but you have the
steroid problem.

In the office I will apply 'negatan' to the leisons, it burns at first
but chemically cauterizes the nerve endings thereby relieving
the pain. If your dentist is willing to apply this medicament it
can be custom compounded for the practitioner, it is no longer
manufactured.

The old adage still holds true for apthous ulcers:
If you treat them they will heal in 7 days,
If you don't treat them they will heal in 1 week.

I have had the worst apthous ulcers anyone could have! I had to see my
GP who gave me Lidocaine (Miracle) mouthwash. My entire tongue
underneath, inside mouth cheeks, etc... all covered with sores. Takes 2
weeks to go away!

I don't get them as much anymore... I've been getting plenty of sleep at
night and eating right.

I feel for ya

We used Ora 5 that seemed to do the same thing; I think it had iodine in it.
