Actually, it's virtually certain that the dentist would, indeed, have
the recommended procedures completed.
The dentist would understand the problems associated with risking
tooth loss, and generally would have the restorations done to prevent
further deterioration. And, if indicated, would also have any
necessary root canal treatment.
Most dentists practice prevention, so the above scenario rarely
occurs. People generally don't need ten restorations all at once if
they have been following the recommended preventive and maintenance
visits for the last fifteen years.
