Not worth much, those are called gold but they're actually made out of
brass and mercury.

The mercury is slightly hazardous, better to let your dentist dispose
of it properly. In some states the dentist is not even allowed to
give it back to you, unless you have the proper paperwork.

Anyway, how do you like webtv? I've heard good things about it.

Oh jeez Ken,

I taught dental materials last semester and I completely missed that.
Where did you find this valuable information?

I thought I was on RBR for a minute...
Seriously, Ken, most gold alloys used for crowns are about 60-70% gold. Balance is a variety of other metals such
as palladium. Maybe the lab techs can comment. There is no mercury in any casting alloys. This would not be, um,
a good idea.

A gold crown is made of gold alloy, similar to gold jewelry and gold
coins. There is no "brass and mercury" in gold crowns.

Yes, the gold crown is worth a small amount of money, depending on its
weight and the price of gold at the time. Sometimes the assay and
processing fees charged by refiners exceed the value of the gold,
which explains why it is a good idea to save scrap gold until a larger
amount is ready to go to the refiner.

I would like to know what "paperwork" is necessary to obtain the gold
crown removed from the tooth! There is no such "paperwork" to keeping
a gold crown.

I cannot even imagine what brass and mercury would turn into .......
something like pewter or something nasty.
