UNETHICAL BILLING PRACTICES--ANY DENTISTS AROUND?
if a patient relies on an opinion rendered by a health care professional,
whether the professional has charged a fee or not, the professional is liable
for malpractice if the patient is harmed.
one of the reasons I do not do state medicaid is that I would hate to be sued
by someone who is being charged far less than my usual fee.
likewise, if someone is using my time which is really all I have to see other
than my brain waves, they should be prepared to pay for it. yes it would be
best if the patient is advised that the time you spent is billable but I do not
believe the patient has a leg to stand on in trying to claim the reverse is
true "I didn't know he would charge me just to talk."
finally, I have treated a load of TMD patients using a detailed history and a
conversation. I always looked in their mouths and examined them, but I was 99%
sure of the DX before that ever occurred.
