Default Flomax - Why is it taken 30 minutes after meal ? (stomach)

Hello

Anyone know the reason that Flomax (Tamsulosin) is too be taken 30 minutes
after a meal ?

I understand that compared to an empty stomach taking it with food smoothes
out the blood plasma concentration peak. What I'm trying to understand is
the 30 minute delay. What happens if to the blood plasma concentration
peak if it's taken sooner say 15 minutes or merely at the end of the meal ?

I have read the 16 page info sheet that the manufacturer provides.

Any advice appreciated

I took it just before I went to be. The only instructions I got were to
take it at the same time every day.

Whatever credibility you may have had as a satisfied PVP recipient is
completely offset by responses like this. He wasn't looking for a
recommendation on BPH treatment, he asked a question about Flomax. It's
great that PVP worked so well for you but regulars readers here know that
everyone hasn't had your success. You're standard reply of "go for PVP" to
every question related to BPH treatment is not only annoying, it's
irresponsible. At least when we had Patrick here touting PVP, he provided
much useful information and explanations of why he thought PVP was the best
treatment. Your replies are just about worthless as a source of useful
information.

Lee

That is surprising. There is definite literature comparing taking Flomax on
an empty stomach vs. full. Taking it on an empty stomach causes a much
higher swing in the blood plasma concentration then taking after you eat.
With food the level 24 hours later is also higher then taken without food.
I just don't understand the 30 after meals that I've seen on every advice
sheet I've ever found.

Really wondering what happens if you take it right after eating since I find
it difficult to not forget once I walk away from the table.

Hear, hear! I have filtered out this particular individual so I don't
have to read the "Go for PVP" on a regular basis. Such religious fervour
is very off-putting!

Here in Canada, we can't even get PVP, so it is doubly irritating!

However, to reply to the question of timing Flowmax, I have never heard
of the advice to take it 30 minutes after a meal. I was told to take it
at bedtime, which is what I do every day.

Usually taking medication after a meal is to avoid side effects that
might occur on an empty stomach.

Since Flomax can also cause dizzyness, taking it at night is one way to
avoid that.
