Actually according to Webster "testis" came first (in naming order) and
the "little witnesses" (testicles) took their Latin name from that. The other way makes no sense; what were testicles called before there was a word "testis" - witness? Cf. testament and other "witness" words. "Testis" gives us all that you mention, including testes and testicles. -- Don donkirk@covad.net |
