Default Cytomel and Armour.Opinions Please. (down heart thyroid)

Hi. I am considering taking T3 to experiement with my indivdual
biochemistry to see What combonation of thyroid therapy works best for
me. Been on 1 grain of armour for 10 weeks, about. Not doing enough.
trying 2 grains for a few weeks. The book, Thyroid Power, suggests
that one needs to experiement with synthetic and or natural thyroid to
find the right dose. I am probably Not Wilsons syndrome because my
temp has gone up a bit on 1 grain as well as heart rate. But my body
temp goes down too much at night. I wake up and parts of my body are
cold, like around the waistline esp in my back. My thinking is taking
some T3, like 25 mcg, which is faster acting and more potent would
help correct this problem.Any suggestions would be appreciated. How
much more T4, if any, would I need if I were to do this?
Thomas.

To jump from 1 grain to 2 grain is a very large jump.
To add 25mcg T3 is an even bigger jump.
Take care.

You seem to be confusing T3 and T4?:

"My thinking is taking

Do you mean T3 or do you mean T4?

Maybe add .5 grain OR 5mcg T3, then give it 6 weeks.

No. I disagree. I went from 0 to 1 grain and it was just fine. 2
grains for a week and just some loose bowel movements. Already taking
18 mcg T3 with 2 grains so 25 mcg would not be a big jump. Only 1 way
to find out for sure. Trial and error. Thomas.

I'm not sure why you think this rules out Wilson's Syndrome, it doesn't.

Dr. John Lowe and Dr. David Derry never had much success with Wilson's timed
release T3. It doesn't work for everyone but it's not ruled out yet. I think
what Derry did for difficult patients was start with 3 or 4 grains Armour and
at that point if they still weren't better add Cytomel up to 100 mcg or more.

If you don't think rT3 is a problem for you, then the average dose of Armour
patients historically usually get better on is 2 to 4 grains. You stopped
increasing Armour and added T3 when it's possible an adequate dose of Armour
would still work. When the means of testing low thyroid was the basal
metabolism test where they put you in a tent and actually measured your
"metabolism" (respiratory output I think, something thyroid is highly
responsible for) the minimun dose that made a difference was 3 grains. So,
that's typically where doctors started people.

you know this dose of 25mcg is a full day for most people--start out
with much less like 5mcg. and work your way up. Cytomel is very fast
acting and too much will cause headaches and stomach aches. Please be
careful!!!! tina

Im already taking 2 grains of armour and that has 18mcg of T3. So 25
mcg cytomel isnt a big jump. You need to stop applying your unique
experience to everyone else. Logically is shouldnt bother me and is
worth a try. Thomas.

Rather a rude answer. What we do here is tell people what our unique
experiences are. Since everybody's different, it's helpful to have different
viewpoints and a simple word of caution can be a good thing.

If you are stopping Armour and then adding T3, then it's not a big jump.
However, it's not clear from your message whether you intend to supplement
Armour with this, or go on T3 exclusively.

Also, just because some author says you need to experiment, doesn't mean
anything works right away. If the average dosage necessary to relieve symptoms
is 2 to 4 grains of Armour, then you are switching from Armour before you fully
know whether or not it will work for you. I wouldn't try Cytomel unless I
reached the higher side of the Armour dosage, what reason could there be if I
was trying to determine if Armour was really my answer because I would have
stopped it before finding out?

Two weeks on 2 grains of Armour is enough for you to know Cytomel is better? I
don't think so. Armour is much easier to use. Yes, there are people who need
Cytomel instead of or in addition to Armour. But Armour is simpler and less
trouble, but you don't know how well it will work for you if you've only been
on 2 grains for 2 weeks. Just by maintaining the dosage, you might find it
really is adequate, and if not an increase might solve the problems you are
trying to fix. Depending on your medical situation it might not be a bad thing
to go up to 3 grains at this point.

Than what are you waiting for?

These boards are a public forum and you never know who is reading
them, what mcg.s work for you might be very high for someone else. In
the book from Dr. Denis Wilson, the doctors manual he states to start
out on 5mcg.s every 4 hours and you work you way up according to your

Explaining the side effects and what worked and didn't work for us is
a benefit to anyone who is thinking of doing the same.

Good luck to you!!! tina

That must be an old book then. I believe he now starts people on compounded
timed release T3, 7.5 mcg every 12 hours.
