Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat xanax anxiety catscan)

I have this feeling almost constantly. The xanax I take as needed helps a bit--but only to a certain extent. I've already had a catscan of my throat and lungs and it's proven that there isn't anything in there to worry about. I'm assuming this is anxiety related. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm constantly pulling on my shirt to keep it away from my neck (I find myself doing this even when I have on a V-neck), and even attempting to wear a necklace scares the shit out of me. What's up with this?

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat anxiety)

I also have a lump in the throat or feeling of being
choked. I don't think it's attributed to the anxiety so much
as it's something else like ACID Reflux?? I've talked to many
people with suffer with S.A.D who also suffer with Acid Reflux.

Could be something to look into

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat asthma diet anxiety stomach)

Hi Buck and Clear,
Welcome to this group first of all.
Its interesting this subject just came up. My breathing has been very
shallow and especially tight. My new asthma Dr says I have restrictive air
something but the major reason is acid reflux , so I think it may be true
since I like to eat before bed and it especially happens on my back ( but
not ***! but its probably not major asthma . We didn't discuss how
anxiety plays into it but I am betting lots it does , just as if you had a
nervous stomach. In one way I am relieved , in another I have no idea about
this acid reflux since I never got any symptoms besides tight chest. I go
for some type of test tomorrow in hospital and not sure I want to. lol I am
suppose to take an inhaler too but not I want to , unless I have too. Any
way anxiety aggravates quite a few things, If its happening when your young
, chances are you better start looking for more effective medications or
change of diet and exercise , cause its probably going to get worse. Steve

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat pulmonary anxiety)

I have never been able to wear anything buttoned all the way up to my
neck - and turtlenecks are way out of the question. Yep, necklaces too,
unless they are very long.

When my dad was in a nursing home they told us to not buy him any
clothes that had a high neck because patients with COPD (chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease) felt uncomfortable wearing them; so I
think it has something to do with the breathing problems we have with
the anxiety. Of course the more we obsess on it the worse it gets.

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat xanax anxiety choking)

Yes I used to have this all the time. I still get it a lot although not every
single day like I used to.
I havent been able to wear anything that is even a little tight around my neck
for years. Everything has to be very loose or I feel like I am choking.
Mine feels more like a lump in my throat or like there is something stuck in
there. It is a very annoying and scary feeling.
I really think mine is mostly caused by anxiety plus acid reflux. It was much
worse when I was taking xanax as needed. I have noticed since I have been
taking it on a daily basis the reflux has not been nearly as bad and the lump
in the throat feeling has not been there as often.
Hope you can find something that relieves this for you. Its an awful feeling

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat anxiety allergy)

Hi Steve
Sorry to hear you have been having trouble with your breathing again.
If you have acid reflux, eating before going to bed is one of the worse things
you can do. Believe me I know from experience.
I always try to eat my last meal of the day before six p.m. If I eat much later
than that, especially if I eat a large meal, I always wake up a few hours later
coughing and nervous with a tight chest and trouble breathing. I always thought
this was just from anxiety but the allergy doctor said he felt it was mostly
from acid reflux.
He also gave me a pamphlet on acid reflux and it says not to overeat or eat a
large meal at least 3 to 4 hours before going to bed. Also avoid fatty or fried
foods, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, onions and garlic and peppermint. Dont wear
anything tight around your waist and raise the head of your bed 6 inches. It
also says not to use extra pillows to raise your head up because that can make
the reflux worse. I always used extra pillows on the nights when I couldnt
breathe. No wonder it never seemed to help much.
Good luck with the test you have to have done tomorrow Steve. I know all about
not wanting to go for tests. I always swear I am not going for one more test
but I always end up going anyway

Default Someone has their hands around my throat (throat anxiety)

HI Buck
I have reflux and anxiety and SAD. I always suspected there was a link between
the anxiety and the reflux but never thought about the SAD.
For some reason my SAD hasnt kicked in yet this winter but I am sure it will.
When it does I will be curious to see if my reflux does get worse then.

Just for the record--my nephew has acid reflux. I don't know if it's hereditary in anyway or not--but it definately sounds like something I should look into. I like to be "sure" nothing is physically wrong with me before I blame it all on my anxiety--although I DO realize that most of my health questions are related to it. One more question about acid reflux though--doesn't that only come about shortly after eating or drinking something that doesn't agree with you? Because I have this feeling almost constantly--even if I haven't ate or drank for quite some time.

Hey Deb,
Thanks for the information! I am sorry to hear about this for you too. You
asked about breathing problems again. Well the Doc doesn't think its asthm ,
yet he said I can be sensitve to the air so I have restrictive reactions to
air or chemicals or any number of things so hence the asthma inhaler .
Anyway this is the same problem I had been having so its sort of good to
know that a, my xrays were ok and b, I might have this instead of asthma.Yes
about the eating , it was a habit and now its going to be classified as a
bad habit. This food ( albeit healthy) is like my sleeping pills. Hmm, first
cigs , then food, now what? lol Thanks allot for the information , Deb hope
your son is doing well. Steve
