Default Alprazolam - when does it start working?

My doctor precsribed Alprazolam for stress because I clench my teeth
and end up with horrible facial pain. He said I could take it everyday
and/or as needed. I decided to take it when needed but it doesn't seem
to work or maybe I'm just not noticing or taking enough. I take .25 mg
whenever I get stressed. I notice that it makes me loopy and sleepy
for about an hour after I take it but then I'm fine. I don't notice
that it helps with stress. I If I take .50 mg, I usually get very
sleepy, then cranky, and must take a long, long nap.

I know there are some medicines that take several days or even weeks
before any improvements or changes are noticable, is Alprazolam one of
those? Or should I being seeing a noticeable change withing say 30
minutes of taking it for my stress problem? Is .25 mg possibly not
enough to be noticing a difference? Either way, I'll talk to my doctor
next week but I just wanted to hear what others had to say about it.
