Default Best Way To Use Lidocaine Patches???

I know it's been covered before but my head is out of commission and
could never do a logical search. I was given some by a nurse practioner
at the physiatrist tis afternoon. She was supposed to give me some
simple charts on how to use them, but didn't. I looked in the packages,
but there's no dragrams there, either.

Does anyone know where I can find a very simple chart about how to use
them?

I was prescribed patches 5%, two patches every twelve hours, then twelve
hours off.

I feel so bad, physically and emotionally.

Default Best Way To Use Lidocaine Patches??? (coccyx)

I was told to put one above my coccyx and that one would handle the
entire pain for both my legs and a patch just below the base of my neck
and it would stop all the pain in both arms and this just doesn't make a
bit of sense.

She said I could cut them it two but why, if they worked such wonders
when they're used whole.

If this worked this way, that should be all we should ever need.

I'm honestly so confused.

Barb, I have been trying them too. But mine says no more than 3. I cut
them in strips and put them over the sore muscles, usually my
shoulders. THey do seem to help. I was given them because I broke my
12th rib in two places a month ago - it does nothing for that. Talk
about pain!

On a side topic: When I was given the patches, I mentioned having a TENS
unit that I was huting so bad that I was afraid to even use. She acually
understood. Does that sound completely insane??? LOL

Default Best Way To Use Lidocaine Patches??? (heart)

I've been thinking so much abot you and your sister but I've been having
a really hard time, physically and from my family, and I knew you were
having enough to deal with on your own without taking on any of my
problems.

I HAVE been scanning this news group and reading every word you posted,
though. You were never far from my heart.

Right this moment, my head is clear but I'm so very tired and in such
severe pain. When both are behaving at the same time, I'll take you up
on writing you.

You, and Miss Kiwi, can email any time you want to. If I don't feel like
staying up to read it, I can print it off and read it when my mind is
clear.

How are you two doing?

I'll post an explanation later, when I feel better, know more, and the
amount of hostility decreases. I'm not sure what's going on with me,
yet.

I use them on my neck and face because of my TMJ, so I have to cut them
up......but I see what you are saying for the lower back and legs.

Default Best Way To Use Lidocaine Patches??? (lidocaine lidoderm vulvar scales fibromyalgia)

Here is the manufacturer's web site. They say to place the patches
where the pain is most severe.

http://www.endo.com/healthcare/products/lidoderm.html

"Apply Lidoderm® only to intact skin to cover the most painful area."

I was unable to locate any charts.

I did find an interesting quote concerning using the lidocaine patch
for people with fibromyalgia.

http://www.immunesupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm/ID/1431/e/1/T/CFIDS_FM/

One such condition that the lidocaine patch may prove helpful is
fibromyalgia (FM). Pain associated with FM or its symptoms (myofascial
pain syndrome, vulvar pain, painful skin conditions, etc.) is unique
to each patient and affects many different areas of the body. Pain can
assume any form or intensity, such as throbbing, burning, stabbing,
stinging, or any combination. Numbness or tingling anywhere can be due
to contracted structures pressing on nearby nerves.

Also, here is an interesting pdf file from Endo for people new to pain
and wanting to understand how to use the pain scales.

http://www.endo.com/PDF/understand_pain.pdf

I hope this helps you.

Default Best Way To Use Lidocaine Patches???

Hey, I just tried some of these patches a couple of weeks ago and they really
help. A friend and I went to Tulsa and I stole some of hers! Ah, but does my
insurance pay for it? Since I did the MUA therapy I really don't need them
now. Maybe a couple of spots while doing therapy.....

Your Bud in FM,
