Default Help - my dog eats pillows (depression down)

HOWEDY jim,

Yeah. HOWE COME dogs destroy STUFF?

That's EZ, jim. Destructive chewing is a symtom of ANXIETY.

Oh. That's HOWE COME you can't TRAIN him not to DO that.

Not at all, jim. Don't belittle yourself like that.
All animal behavior problems are caused by
mishandling.

The Puppy Wizard will belittle you as you need,
want, and ultimately deserve, jim. The Puppy
Wizard sez decent folks don't post here on
account of there are no behavior problems not
caused by mishandling... Decent folks don't
HURT and INTIMIDATE their critters or allow
any other critter to molest their critters, like this:

"My 10 year old female (spayed) cat has started pooping
and peeing out of the litterbox. She has always been a
very aggressive cat; our other female cat lives in the bedroom
and never comes out because of territory disputes.

Anyway, the problems started after our 1 year old dog started
snapping at her when she tried to claw the dog. She hisses
and whacks at the dog all the time. I'm suspecting this may
be a territory thing. Any ideas?," -- Jim Sabatke.

A TERRITORY THING???

Your animals have troubles cause you mishandle them
and allow them to be uncontrolled and problelmatical
for everyWON concerned.

You've been posting and reading HOWER forum for
a LONG time jim, and you're real good at readin and
figgerin STUFF. You either haven't FIGGEREED that
your MISHANDLING is responsible for the seriHOWES
behavior problems your critters ALL got or you're a half
wit or intentionally abusive...

You've had animal aggression problems because
when you fail to PROTECT and ESPECIALLY
when you PUNISH them YOU TEACH THEM
aggression:

From: Jim Sabatke (jsabatke@execpc.com)
Subject: How do I stop biting behaviour?
Date: 2002-06-14 11:20:14 PST

I assume this is a common problem. I've got a 11-12
week old Border Collie / Husky mix female puppy.

She goes through fits of biting arms, hands and feet.
Nothing seems to stop her, she just bites more
franticly when I yell "NO" and push her muzzle down.

Help! Are there any tricks I can try?

How do you get a dog to stop eating its poop?

Also, she has an affection for eating cat poop, can
this be controlled?

Maybe you're just a liar and dog abuser? Perhaps THAT'S
HOWE COME you snipped cross posts?:

"Warning: Sometimes The Corrections Will Seem

You think HURTIN dogs and CRINGING
is COURTEOUS?

"I have heard advice stating that you should pre-load
your dog for Bitter Apple for it to work as efficiently
as possible. What does this mean?"

Means the author is a dog abuser of the worst magnitude.

"When you bring home the Bitter Apple for the first
time, spray one squirt directly into the dog's mouth
and walk away. The dog won't be too thrilled with
this but just ignore him and continue your normal behavior."

You think HURTING your dog is NORMAL
BEHAVIOR?

You think HOWER pal mikey is playin with
a full deck?

Yeah. When I preload my dog's mouth with bitter
apple, suppose I don't get used to being stupid and
cruel, mikey?

Then HOWE do I train my dog if I can't HURT it?

"I Dropped The Leash, Threw My Right Arm Over The
Lab's Shoulder, Grabbed Her Opposite Foot With My
Left Hand, Rolled Her On Her Side, Leaned On Her,
Smartly Growled Into Her Throat And Said "GRRRR!"
And Neatly Nipped Her Ear," sionnach.

Oh, THANKS, sinofabitch...

Have A Very Stoic Dog. Some Dogs Will Collapse

You think HURTING a HUNTING DOG to
MAKE IT HUNT is NECESSARY???

"Well, Jack Did Hit My Dog. Actually I'd Call It
A Sharp Tap Of The Crook To The Nose. I Know
Jack Wouldn't HaveDone It If He Thought Solo
Couldn't Take It. I Still Crate Him Because
Otherwise I Fear He Might Eat My Cat," melanie.

You think allowing a "FEAR AGGRESSIVE MAN
SHY" dog to be BEATEN by a strange male trainer
is INTELLIGENT BEHAVIOR for a DOG LOVER?

And from terri willis, Psychoclown wrote:
"Nope. That "beating dogs with sticks" things is

tractable dogs may require you to progress to
striking them more sharply," lying frosty dahl,

You think a E***PERT trainer got to BEAT
a HUNTIN dog to MAKE IT HUNT?

"Pudge Was So Soft That She Could And
Would Avoid A Simple Swat On The Rump

discoverer of CANNIBALISM in Labradors.

Perhaps the mom dog didn't want her babies HURT
all their lives like HOWE HOWER dog lovers PREFER
to HURT THEIR DOGS?

"John ran out, grabbed Blackie by the collar, and
gave the dog two or three medium whacks on the
rump with a training stick while holding him partially
off the ground. John then told Blackie to sit, ran back
to the line and cast him back to the dummies."

The Puppy Wizard sez a mom dog eatin her

is COMMENDABLE.

Sez on our FAQ'S pages at K9 Web you should knee the
dog in the chest, step on its toes, throw him down by his

LUCKY thing CHIN CHUCK absolutely don't

a conspiracy of LIARS and DOG abusers if
CHIN CHUCK DID mean SLAP the dog.

"I don't see why anyone would want to choke or
beat a dog, or how any trainer could possibly get

DOES THAT SOUND LIKE THE TRUTH?

Or HOWE about HOWER just plain CRUEL
STUPID and ABUSIVE DOG ABUSERS,

amy lying frosty dahl continues:

"On the other extreme, the really hard dogs
we have trained require much more frequent

Get A 30"- 40" Stick.You can have a helper
wield the stick, or do it yourself. Tougher, less
tractable dogs may require you to progress to
striking them more sharply"

BUT NOBODY DOES THAT HERE...

"Try pinching the ear between the metal
casing and the collar, even the buckle on
the collar. Persist! Eventually, the dog will
give in but will squeal, thrash around, and
direct their efforts to escaping the ear pinch"

OR ATTACKING HIS ABUSER.

"You can press the dog's ear with a shotshell
instead of your thumb even get a studded
collar and pinch the ear against that

Make the dog's need to stop the pinching so
urgent that resisting your will fades in importance.

CHUCK IT Under ITS Chin With That Ever
Ready Right Hand, As it catches on, try using
the stick and no ear pinch.

When the dog is digging out to beat the stick
and seems totally reliable without any ear pinch,
you are finished

This is continued resistance to your increasing
authority, and the job is not done until it is
overcome" If the dog drops it, chuck it solidly
under the chin, say "No! Hold!"

(stay on the ear until it does) (perhaps because the
ear is getting tender, or the dog has decided it isn't
worth it)" lying frosty dahl.

"Chin cuff absolutely does not mean slap,"
professora gingold.

Koehler Method Of Dog Training
by Koehler, W R
Published by HOWELL BOOK
HOUSE (0876056575,

================================================== ======

Here's some quotes and some methods right outta your
koehler book professor "SCRUFF SHAKE and scream "NO!" into its face for 5
seconds:"

"The Koehler Method of Dog Training (1962). New York:
Howell Book Book House(p. 52-53)."

Hanging

"First, the trainer makes certain that the collar and leash
are more than adequate for any jerk or strain that the
dog's most frantic actions could cause. Then he starts
to work the dog deliberately and fairly to the point where
the dog makes his grab. Before the teeth have reached
their target, the dog, weight permitting, is jerked from
the ground.

As in coping with some of the afore-mentioned problems
the dog is suspended in mid-air.

However, to let the biting dog recover his footing
while he still had the strength to renew the attack
would be cruelty. The only justifiable course is to
hold him suspended until he has neither the
strength nor inclination to renew the fight.

When finally it is obvious that he is physically
incapable of expressing his resentment and is
lowered to the ground, he will probably stagger
loop-legged for a few steps, vomit once or twice,
and roll over on his side.

The sight of a dog lying, thick-tongued, on his
side, is not pleasant, but do not let it alarm you

THE REAL "HOOD"

"If your dog is a real "hood" who would regard the
foregoing types of protest as "kid stuff" and would
express his resentment of your efforts by biting,
your problem is difficult -- and pressing.

"Professional trainers often get these extreme
problems. Nearly always the "protest biter" is
the handiwork of a person who, by avoiding
situations that the dog might resent, has
nurtured the seeds of rebellion and then
cultivated the resultant growth with under
correction.

When these people reap their inevitable and
oftentimes painful harvest, they are ready to
avail themselves of "the cruel trainer" whose
advice they may have once rejected because
it was incompatible with the sugary droolings
of mealy-mouthed columnists, breed-ring
biddies, and dog psychologists who, by the
broken skins and broken hearts their
misinformation causes, can be proven guilty
of the greatest act of cruelty to animals
since the dawn of time.

"With more genuine compassion for the
biting dog than would ever be demonstrated
by those who are "too kind" to make a
correction and certainly with more disregard
for his safety, the professional trainer morally
feels obligated to perform a "major operation."

"Since we are presently concerned with the dog
that bites in resentment of the demands of training,
we will set our example in that situation. (In a later
chapter we will deal with the with the much easier
problem of the dog that bites someone other than
his master."

The Puppy Wizard sez HOWER world ain't big enough
for dog abusers and liars... and The Puppy Wizard.

Somebody GOT to find someplace else to be.

HOWEDY cymbaline,

Seems for a university educated doubletalker you can't keep your stories

Well university trained intellect, here's you turned upside down:

Ok, I'm not looking to hurt my dog but I was wondering what kind of
"disciplinary" actions do you all use?

I want to know what everyone feels is the best and most effective way
to discipline a dog to make sure he gets the message that what he is
doing is wrong and not desired.

I mostly try positive reinforcement. Like when they are doing
something good, they get a "good dog" or a treat but how sometimes
there isn't really a positive reinforcement to something that they are
doing that you do not want them to do.

I have also tried, growling (really funny since I can't get my voice
that low and I can't roll my tongue) and I've tried the low firm
"no!".

I have also put the dog in time out and ignoring the dog while he is
being bad and then giving lots of praise once he is being good.

Thanks Alikat,

Yeah I have to worry about lyme disease and now the west nile which is
transmitted through the mesquito.

I don't think I'm going to worry too much about rat reports since I'm
sure anyone would be sick after being given high dosages of any
chemical. How can you not?

Rotating the meds seems to be a good idea. You are right about not
worrying during the colder months even here, fleas and ticks are not a
problem while it's cold.

Do you rotate ...

1. the meds will spread over the other dogs?
Or
2. you only need to really worry about giving the meds to one dog
every three months?

Sorry for the load of questions. My two dogs (2 cats and 2 sugar
gliders) are my babies especially since I can't have children of my
own and I've never had dogs as wonderful as mine before.

Oh as for the Sally thing, thanks! I might keep the name and ask a bit
later but she sounds like she's risky to be asking any questions.

Listen, I haven't been part of this group very long and I know that
some might be offended by this but here is the thing.

I'm an animal lover, I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 sugar gliders that
I love dearly like they are my own children. I spoil them all to the
best of my abilities and capabilities!

The thing is I love the people who like to talk about their cats, and
are mature enough to accept that another person has a right to their
opinions about a subject.

Any person who has a true love of something, whether it's for cats,
dogs, cars whatever or even a true connoisseur of a subject is willing
to listen and consider new ideas or different opinions of the subject
at hand.

My father is an expert on cars; he has built three carburetors for
Holley and has done amazing things with vehicles. He has but a Chevy
450 in a small Nissan XE which if anyone knows is a pretty large
engine for a small truck.

He has done tons of other things for Chevy, Volkswagen and many other
car companies but even with 40 something years experience in working
with vehicles he tells me he is still learning.

No matter how much you know, think you know or want to know there is
always something more out there!

This person who comes in and just destroys anyone's enthusiasm on the
subject of cats is not a cat lover.
He is a person who just wants to cause a fight and has discovered that
the best way to do it is to do anything in his power to get under
someone's skin and provoke them.
He has found an outlet for his immaturity, his insecurities or
whatever his problem is and he will not leave because he is finding
satisfaction in frustrating those who really do give a damn.

I have said this and I will say it again...

"If this person's intentions were to really provide information about
the care of cats.
Regardless of his idea of WHAT his version of care is, then he would
Express his opinion in a manner which others would take more time to
Consider. Meaning leaving off the insults and rants and being able to
Back up his views.

I don't feel that this person has much of an education, it may be just
me and
Maybe University requirements have changed but I was required to take
Several communication classes. You learn in these classes that no one
will listen to the message that you are trying to get across if it's
filled with a lot of "noise". Noises meaning, insults, cuss phrases
and rants.

If this person is truly a cat lover, and is truly trying to help the
cats out
there in this world then to me he would want to convey his message
with as little "noise" as possible in hopes of getting all of us
"abusive" cat owners to listen.

I feel that this person's real purpose is to just rant and involve
himself in
arguments with no purpose but to just disagree. "

Now I have also done my fair share of answering him, mostly before I
knew better but us as real cat lovers for the sake of this group and
the sake of really being able to enjoy ourselves. We need to ignore
this person, kill file (if you can) and just not answer him in any
shape or form.

Let him rant, cuss and badger. Just do not answer him and support
those who do not answer him, provoke him or encourage him.

Ok, I'm off the soap box ....
