Default Levaquin with alcohol?

Hi,

I'm currently on my ninth day of a 14 day prescripition of 500 mg of
Levaquin (one-a-day 500 mg tablet).

One of my buddies is throwing a party for his fiancee for her 30th birthday
this weekend and I'm not sure if I can drink alcohol. I've stayed away from
any alcohol since I started, but my doctor or the pharmacist didn't mention
alcohol nor do the instructions warning pamphlet say anything about alcohol.

They mentioned spicy foods, coffee, soda, and other caffeine products to
stay away from, but not alcohol. Is there a danger in me drinking one night
while on this prescription?

Unfortunately my doctor isn't there today, but I do plan on calling the
pharmacist about this to ask when I'm home tomorrow, but wanted to see if
anyone here knows.

Thanks for any help!

Best,
-J

Levaquin is one of the quinolone antibiotics, and these are generally safe
to take with alcohol.

Just to clarify "generally safe": If you have experienced dizziness or
drowsiness after taking Levaquin, you should avoid taking it with alcohol
because it tends to intensify these effects. If you didn't have any
reactions to Levaquin you should be OK.

Just keep in mind that alcohol may make the infection more difficult to
treat, depending on what strain of bacteria you're treating.

Thanks much! I erred on the side of caution and stuck to good ol' water.
Wish I would have known =) Thanks again!
