Wellbutrin ? (anxiety desipramine insomnia)
I took 150 mg of the SR in the morning and 150 mg at bedtime. I found
it to be an effective antidepressant, with much fewer side effects
than the SSRIs. In my depressed state, I do have an anxiety problem
and did not really have that problem on the Wellbutrin, as it seemed
to have a slight calming effect. It greatly increased my drive and
improved my concentration also. Many people report insomnia on it,
but I slept extremely well while on it, perhaps even better than
taking Ambien (a sleeping pill). I also found it to reduce my
appetite somewhat.
I would probably still be taking it except I grew more and more
irritable on the 300 mg/day until it got so bad I was forced to
discontinue the bedtime dose. The 150 mg in the morning by itself had
almost no antidepressant effect, so I moved on to a different drug. I
keep thinking about revisiting this and perhaps try taking three pills
every two days, 16 hours apart, which would figure out to 225 mg/day.
That might be enough to kick in the antidepressant effect and
simultaneously avoid the irritability I experienced at 300 mg/day.
However, I seem to be doing better on the current drug I'm on
(desipramine) as far as mood, self esteem, and concentration. Other
than the irritability, the Wellbutrin had much fewer side effects,
though.
