Actiq - Help! (methadone)
I presume you must have tried all of the alternate opiates before arriving
at actiq because Actiq is horrendously expensive (in Australia) and is
almost never used , even for breakthrough pain for people on fentanyl
patches.
Usually Fentanyl is used because of poor tolerance to morphine but
hydromorphone is invariably tolerated well in these situations. Methadone is
often very effective for multifactoral pain, especially nerve pain, though
less predictable for dose levels.
Unless you have a really good reason for not taking it, morphine is by far
the cheapest, simplest, most predictable and most effective of all.
