Welcome to alt.med.fibromyalgia.recovery.info (moderated) (AMFRI)
Administrative Notice--please read before posting (updated 9/02) PURPOSE OF ALT.MED.FIBROMYALGIA.RECOVERY.INFO (moderated) Alt.med.fibromyalgia.recovery.info (moderated) is a meeting place for those looking for support and information that may lead to a remission of or relief from the fibromyalgia syndrome. It is a place to share questions, information and ideas; discuss problems in search of a treatment or lifestyle changes that may offer relief; debate differences of opinion based on experience or research; explore new therapies and protocols and examine the merits of old ones; seek and offer solace and emotional support, and otherwise share triumphs and trials in lives that are affected by fibromyalgia. A FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions Sheet) will be posted weekly, along with this Administrative Notice. Newcomers note: many of your initial questions can be answered here in detail from a wealth of information that may not appear in response to a post requesting general information or information on a thread that has recently expired. You can access the Dejanews/Google Archive at http://groups.google.com/can . Suggestions to improve or amend the FAQ's should be sent to the moderators at the address below. MODERATION POLICY We ask that you keep it civil, even when you disagree. If you feel particularly passionate about a message you are about to post, please take a moment to review even haughty--easily interpreted as impolite or insulting. Most of us are ill and can easily take things the wrong way. All the same, please remember that it is the content of the posts in this newsgroup that we hope to benefit from--tone is somewhat irrelevant to the dissemination of information. AMFRI is a moderated group. That is to say that a moderator(s) will apply a test of relevancy and minimal courtesy to all posts received. If a post does not pass that test, it will not appear in the newsgroup without first having been returned to its sender with an explanation and the implicit invitation to revise it and re-post. CROSSPOSTING: Crossposting is only allowed to the parent news group, alt.med.fibromyalgia. The reason for this is that when we approve a post that is cross posted, we also approve posts for other moderated news groups. This is not proper practice--so we must honor other moderated news groups by deleting all cross posts to any ng, except amf. Trolling With that in mind, however, personal attacks and insults will not be tolerated. If you suspect something you wrote might be construed as a personal attack or insult, remember this guideline: When in Doubt, Take it Out. Reword it. Otherwise, it may be returned to you for revision prior to appearing on the group. Trolls (people repeatedly submitting personal or inflammatory attacks), after they become recognized by the moderators, will be filtered. SUBJECT TITLES (THREAD TOPICS) Topicality of posts is very important. Posts should be under appropriate subject titles. If they are not, the subject title of the post may be revised, or a new thread may be started to reflect the topic of the post. Moderators may change thread subjects if necessary. VENDORS/SPAM All SPAM will be filtered. Vendors of a product that may benefit persons who suffer from Fibromyalgia are encouraged to share generic research information they have learned in appropriate threads. Posts from vendors containing contact information such as company names, addresses, phone numbers for additional information or hyperlinks to web sites promoting vendor's product must be submitted under the subject header ZAdverti*****ts. Posts must fully explain the product or service being advertised. Vendors' posts that do not conform to the above protocol will be deleted like all other irrelevant SPAM. All adverti*****ts should contain a valid return email address. Any post claiming the poster or someone the poster knows has been relieved or cured of fibromyalgia by an unnamed product and only an email address to reply to will be deleted. Any vague post asking others to "contact me" for more details regarding a cure, treatment or modality will be deleted. We encourage anyone posting under the subject header "Zadverti*****ts" provide as much detail as possible within the post on AMFRI. Complaints of unfair business practice on the part of any vendor posting in ZAdverti*****ts should be reported immediately to the administrator or moderator, and all subsequent posts from unscrupulous vendors will be filtered. The appearance of a vendor's ad in ZAdverti*****t is neither an implicit or ******** endor*****t by the group or its administrators. We advise due caution and investigation before embarking on any "new" therapy or any treatment for which the author makes questionable claims. As of 2/1/99, any vendors found to be sending unsolicited private e-mails to individuals posting on this newsgroup will be barred from posting in the future and reported to their ISP. QUOTING Original written material is generally copy-written. Before you quote someone's words, either from a web site (or a private e-mail), please get their permission, or as an alternative to quoting, cite a link to their site. Original composition or paraphrase submitted to our newsgroup is public domain and may be quoted freely, although it is considered courteous to accurately acknowledge the author for the sake of clarity. Posting Options Stuff happens and people cannot always post from their accustomed news server. Most people have the option of using open news servers, signing up for news service above and beyond your ISP news service, or using a free web based news service such as http://www.google.com. These are all options for when your usual news server isn't working. With a moderated ng you have another option. You can submit posts via email by addressing an email to: amfrisub@netbasix.com . The moderators will enter a news group field and your post will be processed. This method should be used in the event you are having trouble posting. Moderation Delays A note about the time before you see your post. Remember usenet/uunet is not a perfect medium and as such there will be a delay before a post that is submitted to the group appears. This delay will depend on whether or not a moderator(s) is available at the time of the submission and/or if there is a problem with the post. If your post does not show up right away, please do not re-send it. All attempts will be made to have moderation schedules in such a way that the delay time for posting should be minimal. Remember, if you submit a post without a valid e-mail address and there is a problem with it, we cannot contact you and the post will be delayed. If your address is valid, you will be contacted and you will then have the opportunity to re-submit the post. Remember, usenet/uunet is not a perfect system and some posts will get lost in the ether. At any point in the chain, something can go wrong. With a moderated group there are more links in the chain, thus there can be more problems with posts. If you are having trouble with posting, contact your support at your ISP first -- it is the first link in your chain. If you still have trouble, contact the Administrator of this newsgroup -- listed below at the bottom of this message Even moderators' posts get lost and have to be re-sent. Keep a copy of your posts in the event that you need to re-send them. MESSAGE CANCELING It is the responsiblity of each poster to ensure that they want to post a message. All effort should be made to avoid posting personal information. However, mistakes are made. Thus, it is up to each poster to cancel their own messages, as the moderation system for this news group is not set up to cancel messages, except in extreme cases. Keep in mind that once a message is posted, it is out in the world and canceling messages is like closing the barn door after the cows have left--in other words (IOW), Cancel messages are not honored by all news servers, so your message could still be on some server in the world. We recommend canceling at google.com (see the help screen there), to avoid your message being archived.
