Default ASD and the edge it gives us. (diabetes metformin neuropathy coronary glucophage)

Guy made a statement that everyone here is not like the rest of the dm
population, I gave that some thought and realized how true that is, My
two best friends are both type II diabetes, They both use the same
endocrinologist yet I am the only one in good control.

I was talking with one this morning who told me that she went out for
breakfast yesterday and had french toast for breakfast, She said they
gave her a half a loaf of bread and then she had jelly on it, etc.
sugar free syrup, Then she tells me today that she had two egg
mcmuffins for breakfast. She tests, but only before a meal and when she
knows her numbers are low. She is on amaryl and glucophage.

My other friend takes her meds which are a few,. metformin, glucovance I
think and another, She lives like she is a total non diabetic, She
never tests except when I am with her and she uses her meter,. I told
her that from now on if she doesnt have her own meter, she cant use mine
because she ignores what the meter says and eats what she wants. She
has neuropathy and already had coronary bypass, Slowly the
complications for setting in, not fast that she would notice it is
because she is a diabetic.

And then there is I or me, as the case may be,. I found ASD. come
here every day to see what I can learn and what I can offer, I test at
least five to eight times a day and I eat to my meter, I am not perfect
and have fallen off the wagon in these last three months more than I
should, Hope I am still in the fives, but all in all I am very
compliant, I try to do the best thing by myself and I owe it all to
ASD.

The average diabetic doesnt have the support we have found and choose to
fight our disease We are the lucky ones, If only we can reach the rest
of the millions out there with diabetes, diagnosed and undiagnosed,

I admire that Tim who does not have diabetes wants to try as hard as he
can to prevent it from coming, He has a big history so he is coming
here to keep himself on track,

Too bad as I said before that there arent more who dont want to be here
but have found a safe haven,

Just thoughts.

I agree with this Loretta. I talked to friend today that I haven't
spoken to in some time. We were catching up on old news and I asked
about her diabetic son....she said he was not doing well, he has
neuropathy and can barely walk. He is a house painter and he can only
work 3 days a week. Now, this kid is only in his 30's and he weighs
almost 400!! I didn't know what to say.

Dana for some people they are on the road to self destruction and unless
they get professional help, they will not stop.

My friend who ate the two egg mcmuffins just called to tell me she had a
slice of pizza and a hot fudge sundae for lunch, I think she is nuts.

Loretta, why would a friend call you to tell you this? I'm wondering if
she's crying out for help. Just my opinion.

Louise. I agree totally with Loretta. We are a select group here. And I
have to chuckle at Loretta's comment.."I think she is nuts" I believe
Loretta has probably done all she can do to encourage and inform and be
supportive of her friend. There are just many who don't want to deal with
this or do the work it requires to be in control. You may be right. It
may be a cry for help. But until the friend is ready to stop crying and
ready to do what needs to be done, there is little I am sure left for
Loretta to do for her friend. Loretta is a smart and caring cookie and I
am sure she continues to try to lead this friend to a better path. I have
noticed another thing about most of us who are in tight control....we are
zealots!!!! I mean...I stand in the grocery line and often diabetes and
info about it is shared. One particular day a gentleman with his ****age
son was in front. No I can't prescribe...I don't know for sure what his
health probs were.....but I sure wanted to say...Hey here is the asd site.
Just go to it.. Lurk.... and I still feel bad that I kept my mouth shut!!!
What I have learned...the biggest majority just aren't ready. It is so
sad.... I almost stalked a guy named Dan...Has he gone to this site?? Has
he tried to get more info? Has he even contacted me in return? Hey, if I
had tried anymore I think I'd been served with a restraining order!
Human nature never fails to baffle me. I just thank God for the people here
and my ability to face and deal with this disease. Whenever I can, I try to
share info, hope and the willingness to be helpful. I will continue to do
this. I think those of us here do the same. We are preachin' to the choir.
I bet Louise is a choir member also who wants and does as much as she can
to spread the news for good health. Bless you, dear. Memory

Mem thanks for the nice words, You have no idea how much I talk to
these two women about what they are doing to themselves. They yes me to
death and then do what they what, Curiously, they never eat in front of
me, I guess they are afraiid of the wrath of Loretta lol

We can walk the horse to water, yada yada

It is funny, When I hear about people with diabetes on lines or
anywhere, I do preach about testing and coming to asd, No one has ever
showed up, So it is true we are zealotts. I feel like a preacher when
I talk to diabetics, They all sound so interested in what I have to
say, but it really goes in one ear and out the other.

Yes, you're right about that. I did gather a bunch of information and
Jennifer's advice and printed it all out and took it to a woman I know
who is having problems. She has had diabetes for fif**** years and still
doesn't know about carbs and things like that. She just had her big toe
amputated which makes a total of four toes now, but she still isn't
really interested in doing something about it. She acts interested, but
then her eyes sort of glaze over when I try to talk to her in depth, so
I give up. Sad really. :-(

The real difficulty with diabetes is this inability for many people to face
it squarely. It is not the needles, or the finger sticks, or even trying to
calculate what to eat. The solutions are there..... it is staring it in the
face that is difficult.

I sure would not want to face the day without the info I
picked up on ASD and MHD. In fact the probability is
low that there would be today for me.

When we get disturbed over something here, think of what
you might not have, if these groups did not exist.
