Can someone answer this question of mine. I looked everywhere and can't
seem to find the answer.

Ativan (lorazepam) 2mg is equal to :
Klonopin ? mg and
xanax ?mg

I would greatly appreciate any one who can answer this question. Its
important that I know this answer by Wednesday. Thanks in advance

So, the answer is;

Ativan 2mg is equivalent to xanax 1mg is equivalent to Klonopin .5 mg.

Here is one more question if you don't mind.

LorazePAM (ativan) is more closely related chemically to what drug:
ClonazePAM (klonopin) OR
AlprazaLAM (xanax)

You see, I have been taking 2mg twice a day of Ativan for so many years
from Panic Disorder and anxiety, but I want to switch over to Xanax or
Klonopin, but I don't know which drug is more similar to Ativan. Ativan
has done wonders for me, but I am hooked on it and the Psychiatrist
knows this. When I see him Wednesday, I want to switch over to the
'panic disorder drugs' which are xanax or klonopin. Ativan has
prevented and stopped a panic attacks. Maybe I should leave well enough
alone and stick to the Ativan ..or maybe I should mix the Ativan with
either Xanax or Klonopin. I should let the doctor decide these things,
but he has given me so many drugs in the past that were just plain
awful. Every SSRI drug made me ill, except Prozac, which I have been
taking for years at 20mg per day, but I am weaning myself off it because
I feel that my personality has been ,,kind of ...zombied out of me...So
I have now gone down to 5 mg prozac (I take the powder out of a 10mg
capsule) and lo and behold, my sex drive is better, I laugh more, feel
more energetic. But I am having more bouts of diarrhea and stomach
trouble since tapering off this prozac. Perhaps the anxiety is coming
back , and is attacking my sensitive tummy.

It seems that you can't win, no matter what you do with these drugs.

I'm not sure about the chemical composition of the three meds but xanax and
ativan are similar in that they are fast acting and are usually used more
for situational panic or taken as needed. Clonazepam is longer acting and
whilst you may not feel immediate relief it stays in your system longer and
is used as a maintenance med.
Clonazepam worked well for me as it brought my anxiety levels down to a
manageable level.
There are many here who take clonazepam with xanax to cater for the
different types of anxiety and panic situation. It is all about finding the
right med combination and dose to suit you.

Most likely but you should be more concerned what med works at a particular
dose. I have taken both Xanax and Ativan. Ativan didn't help my anxiety much
at 3mg per day but after switching to 0.75mg per day of Xanax it made a
world of difference. As you can see by the numbers I felt better on Xanax
with only half the potency dose.


They're all benzos and work differently depending on the individual. No
clear cut answers here.

Stop right there. If Ativan works then stick with it. I've learned my lesson
after switching to Paxil to treat my panic disorder. It didn't work, in
fact, made it worse. Now if said Paxil works, then I would say stick with
that. Cherish that you found a med that stops your panic attacks. Some are
not that lucky.

That being said don't forget meds do not fully cure anything and if you have
your mind set to this, you'll be disappointed. If not then it'll be so much
easier to deal with the occasional setback and in time it'll become second
nature and you no longer have to "deal" with it an will be the norm and this
in itself will lessen your anxiety.

Same here. As I said earlier, according to these equivalancy charts, my
dosage is now higher than it was before. But that could just be because I
was undermedicated before (i.e. I was just dealing with the interdose
anxiety when it was really unhealthy for me to be building up and then
releasing anxiety like that). I can easily say things are much better,
normal and even on Klonopin. I feel like a normal person (I felt pretty
good on Ativan too, but I definitely had times where anxiety broke
through) and I never get keyed up like I did on the Ativan between doses.
I'd say, unless Klonopin doesn't work for you (original poster) and as
long as your doctor thinks it's a good idea, I would give Klonopin a try.
It will definitely be much smoother over the course of the day.

It's much closer to alprazolam. Both are fast and short acting while
clonazepam has a slower onset of action and works for a much longer time.


If Ativan works well for you, stick with it. Why fix something that
isn't broken? You are *dependent* on Ativan and if you were to switch to
another benzo you would be dependent on that one so there would be no
difference there. Xanax may be twice as potent as Ativan, that doesn't
mean it's a better med. Our reactions to meds are, moreover, very
individual.
