Default can you get reinfected from another persons outbreak? (outbreak herpes)

Hi All,

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering if someone who
already has herpes can get reinfected or at least get another outbreak by
sleeping with a person who is having an outbreak? My girlfriend and I both
have genital herpes and she often gets concerned about me sleeping with her
when she is having an outbreak. Two days ago I slept with her while she was
having an outbreak and I didn't use a condom, because we never do anyway.
Today I have to admit I do feel a little tingly in the thighs and groin
area, which is where I get symptoms prior to an outbreak. Maybe the ***
friction caused this to happen rather than being exposed to herpes again?
Just wondering because I get mixed information on this topic.

Thanks,
Tom

Infection in a different location with the same type is possible but
even that is not very likely if you've had the original infection for
a long awhile. Reason being, your immune system is geared up to fight
it even in the second location.

Being infected with a different type in the original location is
possible though. That's one reason why it's a good idea to know which
type infection you have, and which type your partner has.

If you both have the same type, a new outbreak will likely be caused
by the friction of *** or some other trigger rather than a
reinfection. Once you're infected, that's it. You're infected. You
don't get infected "again" in the same location.

Default can you get reinfected from another persons outbreak? (outbreak stress)

Okay thanks, so its probably the *** that caused it, among other things like
too much coffee and stress etc.

Not a dumb question at all.

You can't contract something that you already have.. however it is awfully
uncomfortable to have *** while you are having an outbreak.. don't you
think?

It might have more to do with the fact that it can be painful to try to have
*** during an outbreak. Sometimes the friction from *** can make things
uncomfortable.

If outbreaks are becoming bothersome for the two of you then you might want
to think about suppressive therapy with Valtrex. That might help to
alliviate this problem for the time being. Try it for six months or so if
you have frequent outbreaks and then go from there.. ya know?

You got it - it's the friction. You can get what you already have so don't
feel as though you are passing it back and forth because you are not.

I hope I was helpful to you Tom.

Take Care,

Default can you get reinfected from another persons outbreak? (outbreak valtrex itching herpes genitals)

Thank you Angela, and M2 for answering my post. I really cannot afford to
take Valtrex right now, and my girlfriend is kind of in the same boat with
her financial situation, but she has a stash of it saved up. I have some
Valtrex left over from a prior time just in case I get a bad one.

I guess my girlfriend was thinking that we are passing it back and fourth so
knowing that it isn't happening is at least some what comforting. I guess
the friction from the *** is causing the outbreaks then. I notice that a
couple of days after *** I tend to have an outbreak that starts and this is
usually after engaging in vigorous *** for a few days in a row.

Right now I am probably getting 12 outbreaks a year, but they are small
ones, meaning that they start out with tingling in the thighs and butt, a
prickly raw feeling in the inner thighs then itching and burning in the
genitals, but one tiny if any sores and mild ones at that. My girlfriend on
the other hand has about 1-2 a year and hers are really bad. Hers start out
as itching and then small cuts in the genital area and burning that lasts
for 1-2 weeks (on valtrex). Mine last about a week with no valtrex.

In addition to genital herpes I have hpv, so its just another thing to worry
about, although my girlfriend says she doesn't have hpv (yet). I heard hpv
as well as herpes has symptomatic and asymptomatic viral shedding.

Any reason why my girlfriend has such grueling outbreaks even on valtrex if
I have much more mild but more frequent ones? She's had herpes about 10
years and I have had it about 5 years, but recently became more frequent and
bothersome. ???

Thanks,

Tom

Something else to think about is that there is also Acyclovir which is just
as good and MUCH cheeper.

Friction is definitely a key factor. I might wait until you guys are both
totally healed before trying to have *** again. Something else to consider
if this keeps up is perhaps ruling out something else going on other than
herpes?

You know.. you guys may want to give suppression a try with Acyclovir OR
check out the Patient Assistance Program that GLAXO offers it's patients
that take Valtrex for suppression and can't affort it. I believe the program
is called "Bridges to Access."

The only other thing I can think of for your girlfriend is maybe there is
something else going on in addition to herpes? It's certainly something
worth checking into.. ya know?

Hang in there Tom,

Angela

Next time you're in Walmart (or practically in any drug store), pick
up a bottle of "Astro-Glide" (I think that's what it's called). That
might resolve the problem for both of you..... and even if it doesn't,
it's still fun stuff ;-)
