"That you believe the poster is better off living in self-instituted and

Thank you for making my point.

How many times must we say it ? There IS conclusive data. Your hypothesis
is that marijuana use CAUSES schizophrenia. Yet, we know that marijuana use
fluctuates in a population, and the rate of schizophrenia does not.
Therefore - the only way that your hypothesis could still be correct would
be if some other unknown causative factor was fluctuating in exactly the
opposite and same magnitude as the marijuana use. This seems improbable in
the extreme. Therefore - without some supporting data - your hypotesis
seems most improbable.

Once again - citing the fact that people with schizophrenia smoke marijuana
at rates higher than the general population proves nothing. The reason is
simple - you can't compare the general population with people with
schizophrenia because people with schizophrenia are DIFFERENT from people in
the general population. We know that there is a correlation - the question
then is, does the marijuana smoking cause the schizophrenia ? Or, does the
schizophrenia cause the marijuana smoking ? Knowing as we do that
schizophrenia rates are stable - it would seem the second explanation is the
one that fits the known data.

Ok so I need some help here. So far, it looks like I can grow peyote,
but not ingest it; and I can ingest pot (under certain cir***stances)
but not grow it.

Have I got that right?

Depends on where you are - far as I know - posession of marijuana is illegal
in the US. I don't know if ingestion is illegal - but I'd be interested to
know who you can ingest it without posessing it. As for laws concerning
peyote - I have no idea...

How was it again that we know schizophrenia rates are stable?

Go check the NIH web-site. http://www.nih.gov. All of the data I've seen there
idicates that the rate of schizophrenia is approximately 1.1% of the
population. I've been unable to find a nice chart that shows it year after
year, but multiple articles mention the 1.1% figure. You might also try

We know schizophrenia rates are stable b/c the American Psychiatric
Association runs a nationwide study called the "Epidemiologic Catchment
Area" (ECA) study every few years. Rates haven't changed from what I am
aware. The only thing that's changed in the mental illness world is more
mental disorders have been invented.
