In 2001, my optometrist told me that I had the onset of cataracts, but
not to worry, that it has barely made a showing.

In 2003, my ophthalmologist said that I have a slight case of
cataracts, but not to worry, i have plenty of time.

Question for anyone? How long will it be before I would 'probably'
need cataract surgery? I'm 76 years old, an the doctor said that my
catarcts as they are now may even outlive me. Any one with experience
eith time and cataracts?

If there is a decrease in the quality of you vision that does not bother
you or prevent you from living your life as you wish, then you don't
need a replacement lens. If your vision is either unaffected or hardly
affected, than it is not an issue at all and may, or may not become so
in the future.

If it's "barely showing" at 76, there are better things to worry about. As long
as you can see what you need to see, you don't need surgery. -MT

Speed of progression of cataract is quite variable from person to person.
You have anywhere from 5 years to 20 years before surgery is needed. The
surgery itself is straightforward and usually successful with few
complications.
