Change in Medications...Effexor and Lexapro... (panic anxiety)
I have had a panic/anxiety disorder since 1991 (well
diagnosed)...since that time I had been taking Klonopin and Prozac --
later Depakote was added for a mood stabilizer. In June (2003) my
doctor took me off the Prozac and placed me on Lexapro (10 mg). Last
week, my new doctor added Effexor to this (37.5 mg for 5 days, 75 mg.
for 5 days and finally 150 mg). Now, on Friday I had an attack like I
hadn't had in years...legs ached, froze up -- felt like they were
rubber; head felt like it was being smashed in; eyes started fuzzing
over; chest pains (gassy feeling) and the obvious impending doom
(does anyone else completely FREAK...pace? Become very vocal?
Basically flip out?). I ended up going to the clinic for a shot of
Ativan and the Doctor there put me on Lorazepan (.5 mg) which I have
taken before (when first diagnosed). Could any of this be because I
was taken off the Prozac? Am I going through withdrawl? I asked my
new Doctor and he stated it was unlikely since I had been of the
Prozac since June...but I haven't been panicing this much since I was
first diagnosed. It is getting to the point where I can't go into
stores alone again. This is freaking me out. Any advice??? Anyone
else taking the medications I am taking? Does it get better???
Oh -- complete list of medications I take: 20 mg. Lexapro (my new
Doctor raised this); 250 mg. Depakote (lowered this from 500 mg.);
1.5 mg of Klonopin; 37.5 mg. of Effexor and .5 mg of Lorazepan as
needed (only needed it on Friday...and that was in the form of a
shot).
