Hi.

I suffer from allergies and have constant problems with my sinuses. I do
find that taking Claritan helps my sinuses.

I have never tried Clarinex, but am wondering if anyone has? What do you
think of it?

In Canada where I am Clarinex used to be gotten by prescription only but now
it is available over the counter.

It may help, but watch that it is not just drying them out and puffing them up
- this is not a long term-viable approach.

I heard Dr. Dean Edell (I believe it was Dr. Dean) say when Clarinex first
came out that it was no more effective than Claritan but WAY more expensive.
Something to the effect that it was only created because Schering's patent
on Claritan was expiring and it didn't look like they would get it approved
over the counter as quickly as they wanted.

Clarinex apparently is 24 hour relief but no BETTER relief than Claritan.
Unless taking Claritan more often is a big problem I would use Claritan
instead.

That is exactly correct.

They also play with moving the dosage up and down.

The "non-drowsy" is mainly achieved by listing an unrealistically-low dosage
on the label.....

Brandon,
Chemically, Claritin and Clarinex are very similar. I am a pharmacist
and have not seen much, if any, difference between the two. Claritin
was going off patent and the company came out with a replacement (as
pharmaceutical companies usually do). If Claritin is working, I would
suggest that you stick with it until you notice that it is becoming
less effective. That would be the time to try the newer Clarinex.
